hurricane sandy..

My reef was saved by Mike at tropical island aquarium.

Everyone knows what a great guy Mike is and how he is always willing to help people out but this just tops all.

I kept my tank going for the first three days on a generator and just when things started getting rough for both my reef and my family Mike came thru with a extension cord over the fence.
I am very fortunate in that I live next door to Mike and his house beeing on a different grid, he had electric and I did not ,but with out hesitation he offered a extension cord to help me and my family out and I am grateful for he kept everything running for the next three days.

Electric came back and I am so thankful for Mike and his family and Tropical Island Aquarium.

Yes I'm going to do a massive water change today and monitor phos and ammonia to dictate water change sched and volume and see what can be saved. quick observation, one of my ricordia's is still alive. i guess proving that shroms will survive a nuclear war lol.

I though the back. could not live in low enough tempatures.

The bacteria just go dormant in cold. While some of the organisms might not survive the cold, the rock will come around quickly and you can be surprised by what might rebound.

That's awesome of Mike to help out.

This is so sad/depressing to hear. I still have no power...and I lost pretty much everything. I was using a battery backup/inverter (btw, don't connect an old battery-they explode - learned the hard way) and used my car and jumper cables to power my main pump, 400 watt heater, recharge the laptop/dvd player, and power the Wii for the kids. I couldn't run the car 24/7 with the gas shortage, and temperature at night became the issue. A buddy of mine took all my soft corals that I could give him plus my two clams. All of my fish are dead with the exception of my male clownfish.

Despite all the loss within my aquarium, I have my house which is dry, even though I am within 60 yards of a canal, my family and my health.

I've been a lurker on LIRA for 8 years, learning from you all, and I'm not about to give up now. So many of you have inspired me, invited me to your homes and shared your knowledge.

I am planning a new tank as we speak. I won't give up, hope you all stick with this great hobby. Be safe, and well.
