can we see pis of black and orange offspring?

They were never raised. I never really saw them or raised them.

Guess what!?

woke up this morning, and my GSM was in the GBTA with the B&W! they weren't spawning or anything, but they were chillin in the same nem. I'm pretty stoked about it

Thats really something, considering GSM's are hard to pair in the first place. And it is with a B&W! If they spawn do you plan on trying to raise the fry, I'd really like to see how that turns out.

I highly doubt spawning will occur being that they are from completely different families in the animal kingdom

I invite anyone to PROVE ME WRONG!

heck yes

I wouldn't say they are actually a mated pair yet, but definitely a step in the right direction. :)

I thought it was a sure thing...

j/k. I think we all know it's unlikely. But if you asked "will a GSM be ok in a 55 with a B&W?"
9 times out of ten, the answer would've been "no"

this is an experiment, hence the thread title lol

dalilgriffith - Did you know a B&W mated and had babies with a regular Maroon?

Once they are both in the nem it usually means they are a pair. Being different Genuses I think it is doubtful but not impossible.

You are wrong. I have seen MaroonXOcellaris babies before. I am not sure these babies are are fertile but this hybrid have been produced.
I am not going to spend the time to search the archives for this but if yo are interested, you can.

Okay:

Caption as quoted by RC Member Oama:
"This is a pic of a GSMxOCL clownfish. They were reared by jfrank100. This is his pic."

Next pic in Oama's gallery which happens to be better:

fwiw: These are not the only pictures or instances of Premnas and Amphiprion sp. breeding on Reef Central, but I did know where to find them quickest :>)

fwiw2: If you are really interested in the hybrids, there are some intense discussions under the search button.

fwiw3: Let's not bombard Oama with requests for pictures of fish which are not his, he now lists his occupation as "retired" :)

fwiw4: the reason for the separate classification of Premnas is the cheek spine.....quite small in the grand scheme of things.

Cheers all.

That shows it can be done, I imagine it would take alot of time an patience but it clearly can be done. Thanks for that, traveller.

This forum needs more Oama and maybe Hardman to drop by.

I found Ecotropic in the bushes behind my house btw Scott :)

Not only is the cheek spine a small and insignificant detail IMHO, but it also seems as though the scientists may have made a mistake when placing Maroons in this genus.

I am not putting much stock in this article. What they wrote:
Although most fishkeepers are aware of only a single species, the Maroon clown, Premnas biaculeatus, the Premnas genus actually contains three species: the other two, Premnas trifasciatus and Premnas leucodesmus, are rarely imported.
This is just plain wrong. I think the other two names are old, no longer accepted names of P. biaculeatus. There are no such thing as two other species of Premnas clowns. IMO, this put the whole article unreliable at best.

I'm sorry to intrude but I have one more question..........

Hey Minh!! Did you change your username? I finally recognized the picture of your kiddo.
