Came across what I think might be the most interesting efflo I've seen yet.

Sadly it was CLEARLY infected with AEFW. Since I am already battling AEFW. I figured hey what's one more piece to blast right?! ;) I thought it was over this summer .. I was wrong although I don't find many these days.

Took it home dipped it, blasted it a lot of adults came off.. Hopefully it heals up.. but it's different then all the other "purple rim" efflos I've seen in addition to a deep purple colour it had a Neon green growth rim along the base.

I don't have any pics as I browned it during transit dip, but hopefully it will come back around now that it's got a few less aefw chomping on it.

Has anybody seen any like this? If so have any pictures of how it turned out. It's on a so mari plug so there has to be others out there (in theory).

Wow, talk about a glass half full personality. A person could make a lot of money if they could come up with an in tank cure for these things. After reading about so many people having these, I am afraid to buy anything. I dip everything in Revive, but that's no sure thing. Hope it works out for you.
 
I didn't remember Melev using betadine, but it looks like he switched to fluke tabs. No updates since '06 though. FYI, I quarantine and dip with Revive, Flatworm Exit, and Interceptor (long "dip") a number of times while incoming corals are inspected for these devils (and their eggs). Eggs can withstand dips so I'd recommend a longer inspection time. Good luck with these worms. I had them years ago and was unable to save many of my corals. :(
 
well, I can join the AEFW club now. I just found them in my tank yesterday. and I thought I was being so careful with multiple dips before introduction.

*proceeds to buy a quarantine setup for new corals
 
Eh, qt bah.. I'm all for the "everything has everything" theory now.. I just baste my corals/my tank as part of my weekly maintenance, it kicks up detritus and knocks any would be trouble makers out of my acros into my wrasses mouths. Usually after a few weeks I don't see anything anymore, but unlike in the past I'm just keeping up with it now for the detritus clean up effect. If I know or have a good feeling there is something new I'm adding w/aefw I will dip it first, then baste it. I don't see the point in a qt it only works if you buy corals in lumps and don't buy anything else until they are clear of the qt. Otherwise you just keep re-infecting your qt..might as well just setup an "AEFW" sps tank..

Until there is a safe/easy in tank treatment for AEFW. Blasting / wrasses seem to be working good enough. It causes minimal stress to my corals, and it helps keep my nutrients in check.
 
thank you for the info MammothReefer, that makes a lot of sense. I basted them when I saw them and my chromis were eating them from the water column. I did just order a small mystery wrasse and a small 6 line, hoping this will help. If they do not get along while in qt, would you recommend one over the other? thanks
 
Neither of those wrasses are "known" to be AEFW hunters. There is a bit of debate over which wrasse to go with. I ended up with a melanurus wrasse, and coris wrasses.

That's exactly what it is. It is what it needs to be - A barrier. Some patience, keen inspection, and good fortune as kept my display worm free. (Knocks on wood.) And the less display maintenance the better. Lol
