I have been selling my Oregon tort frags way to cheap

So whats the real difference between a Cali Tort and an Oregon Tort? When I purchased this as a small frag I was told it was a Cali Tort.

And what about this one? Anyone have a clue? Tort also of some sort?

Oregon tort has smooth looking skin and is a solid blue color. Cali Torts a lot of times are a different shade of blue and has green in it as well. They also grow very differently. Here are my 2 to compare against. One is an ORA Oregon Tort, the other is a Cali Tort with lineage.

First pic, Oregon, second pic Cali.

I got a huge frag from reeflover. My friends told me his pics were photoshopped. Well my friends, they are not. This thing is solid blue. I mean real blue. Did I say BLUE???

My frag is doing great under my radions. Will be my centerpiece!

Glad your frag is doing good Danny and tell your friends that was the best compliment I have ever received. Here are some new photoshop pictures:lolspin:

I'm interested to see how it comes out under LED. I'm building my own LED light now on my biocube, and I'll be swapping out LEDs to get the best coloration possible.

I hope it keeps it's color. I know those pics weren't photoshopped because I've seen what Reeflux bulbs can do, and now I'm a believer!

That OG Oregon torts are still floating around SoCal. Saw a 3" tall "frag" selling for like $80 at a swap.

That has to be the best looking most vibrant oregon torts I have ever seen! Amazing job! I know how slow it grows and how touchy it can be so having such a large amazing piece is really a sign of someone who knows what they are doing.

Hey Guys, I have known Chris for about 20 years and have been watching his tanks about that long. He lives right down the road from me and I look at his tank regularly. The only word to describe it is amazing. The only thing wrong with these pics of his Oregon Tort is that the coral is much bluer in person than it is in these pics. If he photoshopped them he must have toned them down a little just to make them believable

That's a beautiful corals there.
Is it that blue because of it's generic? It has always been that blue?
Or that is just a regular Oregon Tort and it got so blue because of good water quality and good light?

thanks

I bought a frag from Rick about 8 years ago, unfortunately my tank crashed a few years after. I was sorely disappointed when I found out soutasaltwater was shut down :(

I have seen a lot of torts that claim to be oregons, but none of them really look like it. It was SOLID blue from top to bottom.

Bear in mind, they may be asking that and figuring if they dont sell................oh well, the bigger they get the more the price goes up.
Its only worth what a person is willing to pay...................

This coral is coming up on 8 years and somehow I have managed to keep it alive :bum:a few times I almost killed it when I added 48 3 watt LED over it and it didn't respond well turned grey:facepalm:

I bought a 2" True Oregon Tort frag for 30 bucks in Portland, Oregon from a local reefer 2 months ago. $150 is crazy.

What lights are you currently running on your tank?

When he says solid blue he is not kidding!
The OT had been on my "hit list" for a long time and I finally got a piece from a reef buddy along with a few other items traded to me for a frag of strawberry shortcake. (I came out way ahead in the deal but he is happy and we both got what we wanted)
In the piece I received there is literally no varience in color throughout including the growth tips - solid dark blue. Love it!

What lights are you currently running on your tank?
10k reeflux on icecap electronic ballast 24 3 wattLEDs royal blue 24 3 watt LEDs blue

Glad I don't live in New York:lol:

Sell the man a frag off the piece you got from me.

Uh, no..., but you're right, my frag is quite fraggable. Thanks again;)

I'll post pics when I get back from vacation...

For now here's my frag under ambient light. No reef lighting. The day t arrived!

I thought SPS were supposed to brown out in shipping?????
