And I plan on a Tunze pump, I cant wait to try it out!

Good choice, I like them even more now that they are using the Tunze

Her is some nog shots of my 200.

I now introduce you to iTech 100!

First impressions... DEAD silent, I barely hear the moving water, the pump sounds like its not doing anything! This is amazing after using the aquabea pump, being kinda noisy at times. The build quality is awesome. It has screws at the bottom of the skimmer so you can clean all that too. Very easy to put together.

John, who runs the show was great to deal with. Responds to all my emails within 30 minutes and explains everything very well. I am a very happy customer. I just cant wait to get this thing to start skimming!

Thought I would share a picture of my skimmer. One hour after installing the new Laguna pump. This i-tech is skimming a 300gal system.

How is it going so far Dave? Your my benchmark...

BTW: Is the water level in your pic a bit high? Looks significantly higher than the outlet to me, but it is hard to tell...I thought the optimal water height is around 5.25-5.75", where the outlet is half submerged.

Time to skim a bit drier, LOL... ;)

Actually after emptying and cleaning the cup twice within the day. It has dried up some on its own without adjustment. This particular system never has had a skimmer on it and it has a very large bio load. This skimmer is certainly impressive. I will post some new pictures soon!.

Hey everyone,
I have the I-Tech 100, and I have a few questions that maybe you guys can point me in the right direction, before I call John.

-My skimmer (about 3 months old) seems to be very inconsistent. Did full break in, but still one day it will be skimming like crazy, then for 2 days straight it will be filled with micro bubbles in the water(inside the skimmer body) but only up to the water line. No foam being produced into the cup.
I only have 27 gallons total water volume, so is my skimmer just not having enough gunk to worry about? Cleans it all then just sits, or is it not performing very good? Its awesome compared to my CSS, but the fact that i look into my sump after work and no foam has been produced in 48 hours bothers me. And water level in the sump where the skimmer sits is consistent between 5-3/4" to 6".

Anyone have any ideas? I have pulled the whole skimmer, and Tunze pump apart; cleaned and put back together with no reward to better skimming.

Cant explain to my wife why I spent $500+ dollars and constantly complain that this skimmer isnt doing its job. I have read great things about I-Tech. I hope I didnt make the wrong decision in purchasing this.

I do not own an iTech 100 yet, but this sounds like a classic low-bioload problem. Putting an i-Tech 100 on a 20g seems to me to be overkill to the point where your bioload cannot support consistent skimming. Probably never will unless you start dumping excessive amounts of food in there and start vodka dosing. A real problem in these situations is that the hobbyist keeps trying to tune their skimmer to get it to produce, and then gets really frustrated since the inconsistent performance has them chasing the optimal setting.

How often and how much of what do you feed?

I'm reading many build threads where people are installing skimmers 3x larger than necessary. I think a 20g should have a smaller skimmer with a smaller neck (or no skimmer at all). A Tunze 9002, a Remora/Urchin, a Warner Marine H1, a Deltec MCE300, or even a H&S 90-F1000 are all more appropriate skimmers for a 20g. A 20g only needs 80-120lph of air through the pump, 200lph max...

I would tell your wife that you need a bigger tank to go with your skimmer... ;)

If that doesn't work, sell the iTech 100 to me...

Thank you for replying but I would have to disagree. I woud rather feed more, and skim more, than having to worry about feeding too much, and my system not being able to handle it. If my water is just being over skimmed that is fine with me :D I keep an eye on all my levels basically daily. I just want to make sure that the I-Tech 100 is doing its job.

I just double checked the neck size of the i-Tech 100. 2.75". Not as big as I remembered, sort of like a ER RS80 in neck size. Can you get consistent performance if you skim wetter by closing down the wedge pipe?

Sounds like to me it's doing its job and then shuts down when there is nothing left skim out of the water. Or you are adding some type of additive that is shutting down. The i-tech 100 was designed for a 100gal system so you have a really big skimmer for your tank, so maybe it is the first suggestion, FWIW.

Enjoy - you paid over $500.00+ for your I-Tech 100? I have one on my 150gal total and its just right. I think you went way overkill on your skimmer or like hyperboy said could it be an additive?

I will post pictures of mine. Its been running close to a week.

The 100 is AWESOME, I now over feed ( fish are happy ) and I dose vodka and MB7. Hopefully I will have a larger bio-load before hand.

-Dave

I'll post pictures after I get back from vacation.

One other thing I want to say and these are just my opinions and could be totally off. I feel people are taking skimmers way to seriously. It's GREAT to have a good skimmer and you always want to have one but in the big picture of everything else its really not that important. It's way more important to have the right photo period(most important thing IMO). Spend your time on keeping your water stable and research lighting and reflectors. Enjoy you really don't have to worry about it not doing its job, man you got it on a 27 gal!! I would worry about it taking out too much stuff.

Which model I-tech do you have on your tank? By the way congrats on you TOTM Jan. '09! Good job

Thanks Hyperboy, its a 100. I love it, the best thing about it is it just skims and I never have to touch it :) Very stable once it gets broken in.

Well here are some shots of mine. I am VERY happy and think this is the best bang for your buck for cone skimmers. I may write a little review in a month or so.

Tech 100 - After 4 days with no feeding while I was away AWESOME!
