If i was to get a i-tech skimmer what size would you guys recomend for a 100 gallon system with a medium bioload/sps. the 200 or the 100? and which is the best pump to use with the model you recommend? the sicce?

I was advised by John to get the 200 . I had my own pump so he sold me a 100 body . I have no regrets . I am constantly emptying the cup every 3 days or so on a 100 gallon / 33 gallon sump .Due the the stink or the cup is 1/2 full . Light Bioload . It is new ULN sps dominated tank . Mostly frags atm . 4 months old with 5 fish . I see no issues down the road as Emster's coral load is high and his 100 is still getting the job done .

I forgot if it's the 100 get the Tunze he was wet testing . It shoud be good to go now .

I had my own pump and Emster's tank of the month bioload gave me an idea of what the skimmer could handle . John likes to oversize skimmer's to tank ratio's . If you follow the thread you will see a lot of other's like me went with the 100 too . I will upgrade back to a 120 . I can go no larger tank wise for now .
If I knew we were moving to a larger home soon then I would have went the 200 for a larger tank down the road .
If u have any inkling to go for a larger tank then by all means it would make sense to get the 200

So you guys still think the tunze hydrofoamer/silence is good for the 100 and 200 but the sicce is only good for the 200???

My understanding is the 2500 is too much pump for the 100 .

600 lph on start up vs the Hydrofoamer @ 480 lph operating .

The 2500 is fine for the 200 but not the 100 .

BTW those are John's numbers from testing .

well if the new pump only does 480lph it all makes sense I was told 600-800lph for that pump.

Here are the ratings for the 100 with pumps .


AquaBee 2000/1
Airdraw: At startup ~360 lph @ 9w in 6 ¼” depth of water. This one varies as high as 420 lph .


Sedra 3500 350 lph restricted @ 23 watts 6 1/4 depth of water .



Tunze hydrofoamer

480 lph @ 12 watts same water depth .

Not in a hurry since its for a new tank build which won't be until june or july.

So I'm currently running the Sedra on my 100 and I'm not overly happy with it. Not the skimmer, or even the results, but I meshmodded the skimmer and John thinks that could be causing too much water flow in the skimmer. So instead of buying a new impeller and restricting the flow through mods I thought I'd look in to the Aquabee. So where are people getting those pumps and what, if anything, do they need to do to get it to function properly? Thanks.

The best aquabee comes from bubble magnus I wonder if chris at nuocean will sell it complete, shomuch he might be able to get you a venturi as well.

I want an Askoll, but I don't know which skimmer body they are matched for. Maybe John knows. I have heard nothing but killer things about Askolls.

Any one know how much the Tunze will be when it comes out? I see the aquabee is selling for $125 w/o the venturi on that nuocean site. I thought that the Tunze wasn't going to be all that much more(around $160?). I can wait.

Jeff~ I would just go ahead and try contacting John at FAOIS... He'll advise you as to which skimmer will suit your needs and will answer any and every question you might have... I know his wife recently had a baby, so he might take a little bit to reply, but in other circumstances, I had always received a reply within the day...

I should call him. I have been running the Bubble Master and I think its a bit too small. I dont want to do the same thing with the I-Tech but if there is a pump that is a better match for the 200, and he thinks it is a good match, maybe I will go that route.
I was hope to hear from users with the 200 on 200+ gallon reefs here first though.
