I want a magnifica, but being told it's impossible...

Thanks for that...it would explain the behaviour where it was very bubble tipped when high and new but it is currently down low and under a rock ledge. The tentacles have switched to longer and thinner. From what I am reading it may be in trouble..or not. Mouth looks good and it feeds well on small chunk of prawn twice a week. I will watch with interest how it progresses....looks strong at the moment. Newbies are as vulnerable to LFS as Anemones are to damage..?

So my lfs brought me in a magnifica Thursday. I'm out of town till Sunday.

And I can't get Ciprofloxacin locally. Ordering it is at least the end of the week.
Is there something else I can use?
They were going to wait a couple weeks but the supplier said this one was super nice.

I'd rather it not die. Right now it's just at the lfs.

There isn't any other medication that has a high enough success rating that Cipro has. The time at the LFS to the time you're able to treat it could be the difference between life and death since the onset of the infection is hard to diagnose. If it's already sick, and it spends a week at the LFS without treatment, it may be too late by the time you start.

Ideally, you'll want to have your QT tank ready to go prior to receiving your anemone -- not a 60 gallon one, but a 10 gallon or so, or one that holds 10 gallons and the water level is high enough to more than cover the anemone. Your dosage of Cipro is typically based on the volume of water you're treating so you'll be using 6x as much Cipro as you would with a 10 gallon tank. If you have a large supply of Cipro then I guess it doesn't matter, though Minh's protocol requires a 50% water change every day so that's something else to consider.

I would take a look at it once you get back. If it looks okay, you can roll the dice and see how it goes. It may not even need treatment at all, though watch out for the warning signs -- deflation, expelling zoax, limp posture, etc.

Can I use Amoxicillin? I have some here, but cipro is at least a few days away.

I looked at it, it was deflated, but they were doing a water change, they said it was inflated up till that point though.

We know Cipro works. Amox is a wildcard. Some years ago Joe Yacullo of the NY Aquarium had sucess treating mags with antibiotics other than Cipro, but I do not recall what he used.

A 50/50 chance is better than none I guess. As long as it won't harm the nem.
From google it just seems like amox is just a little less broad of an antibiotic.

I figure at this point my water is at least better than the fish stores.

Depends, I suppose, how the nem looks. My personal experience with these nems is that the don't deflate when happy, so any kind of deflation cycle is reason to worry ..... and treat! I think Amox may well work, even if experience here is limited.

I'm not sure if I should do a new thread or not. But here is day 1 in my care. Day 4 since shipping.

Ok picked up the nem. I think it is smaller than the 12"+ I was told. But we will see.
It looks super bleached right now. I have it under 12 3w cree LED's at 85%
Water is ~8" deep. 10 gallons of water exactly.

I put 500mg of amox in. I realize this is an overdose. But I don't think it will have any adverse effects. Although tomorrow I will only do 250.

Hopefully the flow is good? I can increase it if needed, but can not lower it any more.
This is ~10 minutes after putting it in the qt tank for it.
Here is a video.
