Fish heads unite!

I'm usually the first one to jump in a thread and say that no way can a healthy fish get stuck to a powerhead. Well, I think that's not always true. Toby type puffer + likely enticing food stuck to Tunze 6255 on 100% = death trap :(

RIP awesome fish... so beautiful.

That's a shame, sorry for your lose Peter. I know the sinking feeling in your stomach that comes from seeing something totally unexpected in the tank.

so sorry, peter! it used to make me nervous to see my hawkfish perch on my power heads but they do it all the time and so far, so good. wish they would use the rocks instead!

I worry about my angelfish trying to get food stuck on my MP10s when they are running at 100%. Sorry that this happened, Peter.

Had an otherwise healthy Naso Tang get pinned to the side of my MP60 - to its demise, unfortunately.

Thanks, all. I was pretty bummed. It was a gorgeous fish, and well established (a trade in at the LFS), and I've had it for several months at this point.

yeah..anytime that happens it blows.. always in my instances it's be avoidable so i get really ****ed off. the time i found my longnose BF stuck in my mj1200 that took awhile to get over.. 6 months and still ****ed.

I lost a clown fish to a maxijet in qt 2 days before I was gonna add it to my DT. Was a bummer. Ever since I put a bioball at the input of it. Works perfect. Is there not a mesh grill for the tunze? (never used them before).

My MP40 came with a mesh thingy, and after reading this thread, i think i'm going to use it.

Hmmm, I'm not sure the 6255 has anything like that. Does the MP60?

The mp60 does have a mesh type cover for the wetside but it will cause you more headaches than benefits with it sucking all the food thru the mesh on the wetside and I'm not sure it would help a fish escape from the suction hold anyway. It would stop them from becoming sushi! Awesome avatar pic Peter

Are you guys talking about the slip on black foam cover that comes with the vortech pumps? If so, I agree that they are more trouble than benefit. they clog really easily and just one more mechanical filter to have to remember to clean.
