ID bleached carpet

With a username like that, shouldn't you already know? ;)

Sorry, couldn't resist. :D On a more serious note, you might want to separate the clown and the nem till the latter recovers. An anemone that's already in rough shape probably isn't up to the stress of hosting a clownfish.

haha yea i know right? as for the clowns, they were hosting my frogspawn but 1 switched when i put this in. i dont really have anywhere to put them.

i <3 my fire clowns lol

as for tank specs if anyone wants to know, its a 20Long with a 150w 14K HQI. its got a hang on filter full of neozeo and sponges. 2 aqua clear power heads and a 2LF phosban reactor running full with carbonI(changed weekly) ~75 pgh running through it. my nitrates hang around 5-10 ppm, i do weekly 10% water changes and have a ghetto rigged ATO--upside down milk jug. temp 76-80 at the highest. 0 ammo and 0 nitrite obviously haha

do you think its savable? it seems to eat chopped pe mysis that i squirt on him. had for 3 days now

I would also remove the clowns since you have aquired a Gig. They are already difficult to acclimate as it is but that one is pretty bleached. Small regular feeding will be necessary to give strength while it's recovering. Good Luck!

gigantea for $17?? even bleached, that's a STEAL!

get it on some rock--they are rock dwelling nems. they are usually light hogs, but in this case, since it's so bleached, i would NOT blast it with light. when it's settled down, not moving, not inflating/deflating, i would try feeding it w/tiny bits of shrimp.

good luck ... this type of nem, even when looking healthy, is one of the hardest ones to keep--search "gigantea" on this forum and you should be armed with plenty of knowlege and anecdotes from ppl who've attempted and succeeded to keep it .

Ahh yes, the perks of working at a LPS

i set him in the corner thinking he might want to be in the sand, but he did move the the rocks. his mouth seems to close and its not always open. i havent seen him discharge anything from his mouth either. When i sit and watch, it always is "moving" like changing shapes.. is that normal?

also, its not really inflating and deflating through out the day cycle..although i havent checked it at night. it seems happy when the lights are on, but we all know looks can be deceiving.

i had a green carpet in my 55 and it stayed in the sand and i had it for 6+ months...apparently im in for a challange.

oh and also.. i was researching and i am thinking it might be dyed because the foot is kinda blue. shouldnt the foot always be white?

The foot on my gig is blue. Its verrucae are lavender. As long as the gig is not inflating and deflating, you might be able to bring it back, especially if its eating. Don't worry about what it looks like at night, since they aren't as big as they are during the day. You'll definitely know what the inflation/deflation cycle looks like if it starts to do it.

I don't think you listed your pH. I tend to think that 8.3 should be your target for gigs. However, if you're way off, don't quickly try to raise the pH. Also, if you're dosing kalk, stop for a few weeks while the gig acclimates.

I think he is very beautiful even with the bleaching. Wish you the best in bringing him back to better health. also...your pictures are very nice..very clear. Good luck!

Thanks! I took them on my htc evo 4g. As for PH its a little low now that I think about it - closer to 8.0. I do dose Kalk so ill hold out. Thanks for the tip

I see no reason why that anemone can't make it. It has a long road to recovery, but in the right conditions, I believe it has a very good chance. If it were my anemone, I'd give it really, really, really clean water, and lots of good food.

Ok well if you think it has a chance ill give it my all haha. Sounds like I need to get my hands on some selcon. Thanks again guys

yeah, i think there is a great chance that thing is saveable ... I'd rather get a bleach gigantea with a tight mouth that doesn't gape, than a non-bleached one with an open mouth.

Good to hear. Who knows.. if I can save it- then it will outgrow my tank. You might see a blue gig for sale in 8-12 months haha

hoe long was the nem in the lfs. did it come in bleached?

When I saw it I didn't take it out of the shipping water... took it straight home. It was bleached when I pulled it out of the box. I know he have officially id's it but ill keep you guys updated. If there are any more questions please ask me.

I'm not an anemone expert and hate to rain on your parade buti hope you have a bigger tank to keep that anemone in because it will outgrow that 20 long in no time. On a side note that tank and nem are both beautiful and i wish you all the best in saving it.
