ID : rock anemone?

Hey guys,
Just got some new live rock for the new setup I'm working on (this is in the sump)

This afternoon I noticed this little guy opening up. It's about 3/4" across. Photo is taken with a phone camera under a standard CF bulb.

Looks like a majano from the picture. I would kalk the heck out of it just for GP

I don't think it's a majano, it's kind of interesting with the purple tips and it has a cool appearance. I'd let it grow for a while and see. Feed it mysis shrimp every few days .

I could be wrong but looks like a condy, about the only thing i could keep alive 25 years ago.

Platypuslkr, maybe you should wait until to have a clue before you go off killing stuff on 'general principals'.

It is absolutely a Condy. They are somewhat common in the Florida Keys but have been placed on the list of 'protected' species by Florida, i.e. you can't collect them any more.

They can get fairly big if they are happy and well fed. They have been known to do some wandering around in an aquarium, but if happy they may stay in one place for years.

My first impression is of a Condylactus as well. I would feed it a bit and see what happens.

And +1 to Why the big rush to kill things off? The never ending diversity is one of the things that have kept me in the hobby for nearly 30 years.

If it turns out to be a pest, it will be easy enough to eliminate it down the road.

Pretty little thing! It will probably wander around until it finds a spot it likes. They are not a natural host for clowns but some clowns have been known to take to them.

Holy christ almighty. I guess i should have put......wait until it is confirmed by others with more experience to confirm its identity (implied reasoning when referring to every post on every forum, on every subject, for every context for the history of the internet....but apparently I should have specified all that in my post) then if it is a pest you can remove or kill it.

Witht he purple tips, it looks like a condy to me as well. They are definitely hardy, but can do some weird things. I am convinced mine is dying every other day, but he always comes right back and I've had him for well over a year.

Condy for sure. Feed it 1 time each week with pee sized table shrimp. Keep red legs away as they can pick at him.
