ID this tang

I am trying to ID this tang. Definitely in the bristletooth family but not sure of the species. At first, I was thinking Atlantic Blue but as it colors up, its developing orange spots on its face and a tinge of yellow on its pectoral fins. In person, its just like a kole minus the yellow around the eyes. Any ideas?

Definitely in the Ctenochaetus genus.

Like a bristletooth tang, but it lacks the orange coloring on it's fins.

Puzzling.

Where did you get this tang?

Regardless of what it is, it's a very nice fish Jeff. The LFS (Elmer's Aquarium) near me has one. Has a very nice rainbow spotted coloration to it. I always just figured it was some variation of a kole/one spot bristletooth tang, but it looks like you managed to purchase a similar fish. Next time I'm up there, I'll have to take a picture. I think theirs lacks the yellow highlights on the eye as well.

here's a pic of my Ctenochaetus striatus (Striatus or Striated Bristletooth Tang). It can change color relatively quickly.

It looks a lot like it. I will have to wait to my lights come on and take a really close look at the belly pattern to see if it matches. This one doesn't yet have yellow on its dorsal fin yet. The pectorals just started turning yellow.

Ironically, when I got it, it was the ugliest fish you ever saw. Pale white and yellow for about 2 months, transitioned to gray, then what you see above.

Hey TJ, when you coming to Cleveland next?

Lets throw the names in a hat at the party and come up with some sort of prize. This is a good brain teaser. Is it a cross breed?
