New to Reef Central

Hello Everyone,

My name is Tyler and I'm a college student attending Florida State College at Jacksonville. I'm excited about joining this online community and look forward to reading many great posts and learning as much as possible. I currently have a 10 gallon nano reef tank that has been running for about 4 years now. I set it up in high school and threw a few mushrooms corals into it. I haven't done much to it since then. I've had many aquariums over the years and I'm a complete and total geek, but I have a feeling I'm not the odd man out here. Just wanted to say hello.

Happy reefing,

Tyler

Hi,
My name is Karen and I kept a 37 gal tall fish-only tank for 4 years. I had a small Humu-Humu Trigger, a baby Red Volitans Lionfish, and a lawnmower blenny. 7 months ago, I bought my first Mushroom coral. Completely fascinated by that, I started adding other soft corals. Moved to a 75 Gal tank (for room) with T-5 lighting and added 3 young Ocellaris clowns, one orange, 2 black. I kept adding corals, trying my hand at LPS, then a Gorgonian, then SPS. Strangely enough, the Trigger is very happy, is the welcoming committee for anything new, only moves the corals once in a while, and all fish are hand fed. I am so obsessed with the reef now, I come home with a new coral every other day to once a week! I do have a 10 gal hospital tank where I collect corals in need of TLC.

It really has become a huge part of my life, helps keep my sanity, and is a big hit to the wallet... But well worth it!!

I'm here because I find myself perusing the forums for advice all the time. I am always trying to do research, and finally bit the bullet to get some real help!

you are in the right place for the reef obsessed

Hi Everyone,
I was given a 100 gal salt aquarium with all accessories...I cannot for the life of me keep fish alive or even have the first clue as to mae it run right....what should I be doing??? also, I have red algae everywhere....please help..I think saltwater aquariums are beautiful...I dont want to give up....

How long has your tank be up and running?
what are the measurements for salinity, pH and alkalinity, ammonia and nitrates
These have direct impact on keeping fish.

Hello All, I just found this site a few days ago (could have used it 2 years ago when i started my first tank...would have saved me a lot of confusion and cash). I started with a 75 gallon bowfront....then discovered the power of a refugium....but my coarals wouldnt grown....then I found out about this crazy invention called metal halide lights....and upgraded to a 125 gallon tank....and built a awesome reef tank that I loved....but there were so many fish that i couldnt put in it....and craigslist had this great deal for a 240 gallon acrylic tank (just had a lot of scratches and a ugly stand)...but i was to impatient to do anything about the scratches or the stand and set it up as a fish only....right next to the reef tank and fed out of the same refugium, so it was one big system. then i got sent to iraq and the people i was renting from told me a week before i left that they were going to sell the house while i was gone (i already had fishsitters lined up and everything) so i had to tear the whole system down and sell all my fish and corals. when i got back i just set up a 36 gallon reef that has been doing awesome....but its to small again. So i am in the process of setting up the 240 as a reef tank. but this time im taking everything i learned and am doing it right. the tank is at ATM right now getting the scratches removed, im getting a very nice stand built for it and ive got a whole bunch of new equipment showing up daily at my house. so this is going to be a fun build. And in doing research for it i found this site, joined and this is my very first post.

Suggest you start your own build thread for the 240 gal and hopefully you can post some pics.

Hello RC'ers, My name is Brandon and I Live in Chandler AZ. I just recently setup a 20g tall. I am running with 15lbs sand and 20lbs live rock with a Coralife 65w PC 50/50. I recently Just got my first corals in the tank about 2 weeks ago from the bargain bin at my LFS. not really bargain bin but they were fresh frags(plus I think the sales guy was just being generous). several zoas, a paly and a orange ricordia for around $20. Some of the live rock I purchased had some red shrooms and a Taro tree hitchhiking on them.
As far as fish go I have 2 blue/green chromies, a yellow watchman and a PITA 6 line wrasse, who has killed my peppermint shrimp and one of my emerald crabs. No other plans for fish as of now since the coral thing took me by surprise and now I have what professionals call an "obsession".
Along with this obsession came my 5gal hex tank converted over with a handmade hood mod for the coralife 20 watt 50/50 screw in bulb. I look forward to learning alot from this site and using my knowledge to help others.

Hi All,

This is David from Blacksburg, VA. I just joined today...and will keep this post short 'cuz I'm on a quest for a 1" bulkhead (I cracked mine) and have a bit of a leak :D

Anyway, saw a fellow Blacksburg reef keeper selling some tanks on the forum...so I figured I'd start there.

I have a Red Sea Max with a couple clowns, and couple damsels and some SPS frags I just picked up on sale.

Hi everyone! I'm Shayne (Negative). I'm from Salt Lake City, Utah. I'm new to the hobby and I'm currently building a 90 gallon reef tank. I'm a couple months into the project and I still haven't even added water yet. I'm just taking my time so get it done right, and it makes it easier to enjoy the process.

Hello everyone. Shawn from Dallas, TX. New to the hobby and building a 75 gallon reef. Bought the 75 gallon standard (no overflow). Any suggestions on equipment need to have a successful setup would be warmly welcomed. I have the tank and (2) Koralia Evos rated at 1050 gph and have been considering the Deltec MCE600 skimmer and Currant Nova Pro Extreme T-5 lighting system. Again, any suggestions on equipment or setup would help.

Thanks.

I would get rid of the six line wrasse. It sounds like it is going to be a pita for a long time. Sixlines can be very problematic and limit the choice to other wrasses that you might want to add to your tank
