If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

I am new to this group and also a 6 week old rookie to saltwater. Previously I was involved with African Chiclids but now ready or salt.

I have a 125 using LEDs. I have a reef and some soft corals.

I built my own stand but I am looking for ideas from anyone if you have plans on building a canopy.

I look forward to the reads here.

My name is Jack. :fish1:

Hello All
I'm new to the saltwater, thanks to my nephew who let me buy is breeding pr of watchman gobies. I been in the fish breeding hobby for years and I'm almost at 200 species breed in freshwater. I have 45 tanks in the basement all FW. I only have one 20 long SW. I found myself not liking the salt to much because all my FW tanks have live plants. So I found some lfs selling a few plants and one guy said to put a couple of zoantihds in there to help make it look better. but I bought one zoa and found one more and next one more, and now I'm looking to start collecting them.
So thats my problem.
I hope to learn more on this site.
thanks
Derek Walker

that's what makes saltwater so much better, you're not limited to just green plants you can add color from zoanthids, softies and hard corals. Check out RC's section for corals. If you're not hooked now you will be!! ;)

And if you want to try your hand at breeding saltwater fish check out this forum

be sure to start a new thread documenting you tank build.

Sisterlimonpot i am gonna try and document as much as i can. New to the whole thread thing so, may take a little bit to figure it out. hopefully it will go smoothly. Going to start on the sump/refugium after the first of the year.

planning on doing a reef lilpapa think i am going to run my 45 g for a bit and get nice stuff and then upgrade up to the 90 g.

y0ung0ne i believe i am going to do reef. I had a 75g fowlr and done well with all my water perimeters. I kept the waters ideal for reef just never introduced them to the system. I believe the 90 is going do excellent for the purpose.

New to saltwater fishkeeping

My name is Arif. l live in Duluth, GA with my wife April. I've maintained:bounce freshwater African cichlid tanks for the past three years, but have always wanted to graudate to a saltwater tank. I recently converted my 20 gal freshwater tank to a saltwater. Im so excited about the things to come. :bounce1:

Hi my name is Steve i have a 180 gallon freshwater tank and i wouls also like to set up a reef tank, not sure what size yet.

My name is Sebastian and I'm from southern Germany. I've had various freshwater tanks for roughly 20 years now. Last year, I decided to venture into the salty side of the hobby with a 15 gal tank. Everything went splendid. Unfortunately, two months ago a snail blocked my main stream pump and the whole tank crashed while I was away from home. Thus, I'm now going to set up a 50 gal tank in the new year - bigger and better.

Hi All =)

I got into aquatics when I bought my first turtle 2 years ago. Her name is Titan and she's one spoiled red ear slider. She moved from a 15g to a 28g to a 100g and now she's happily in a 280g. I have always wanted to try my hands at reef keeping, however I have only heard of horror stories. Every time I walk past the nice but empty 28g tank sitting in my storage, I always thought "what a waste, I should really do something with that tank...perhaps salt water?" The bug bit me when my girlfriend planned a trip to Cozumel and we went diving for the first time.

Oh my... what a beautiful world to be seen underwater! We saw all types of colorful fish and corals, right there in their natural habitat! That was it for me. The whole time I there, I couldn't get my mind off of the possibility of reef keeping. Then the more threads I read, and the more successful tanks I see on RC, I became more confident that one day I can turn that 28g into something simple but can take my breath away every time I look at it... hopefully it doesn't lead me into the 100g that's also sitting there, empty =D

I want to thank RC for instilling the confidence in me to take this plunge. I still have lots to learn (specially all the acronyms and scientific names... yikes!) but I'm sure RC is the right environment to do so. Thank you in advance to all the members who will be guiding me through this journey.

Good morning,

Seemed appropriate to intro myself here. New to the hobby and a few weeks in with a 72g bowfront. Big thanks for the Newb threads. Between those/the boards and my LFS in Jax, I'm now up and running. I've had a few freshwater tanks in the past, usually 10-20 gallons. Mixed about 20-30 lbs of liverock with about 50 lbs of baserock this Thursday and now have some algae growth on my rock and sand.

Stats:
72g Bowfront, drilled (that's right, I drilled through glass)
Dual 1.5" bulkheads and overflow (thx to Glass_holes.com)
Store bought sump (no skimmer yet)
QuietOne 5000 return pump (~900 gph@5ft)
3/4" drilled bulkhead/return
SecondNature powerhead
Current 4xT5 vho
2 inches of LFS live sand
60-80lbs of live/base rock (:o didn't weight the base rock)

Liverock brought in a few snails, a crab and some spotted slimy thing that's wedged in a hole in one of the rocks. I assumed that I would be impatient (in my nature) but I had no idea the amount of activity and wildlife that just came with the liverock. I've been having a blast just watching the changes in the last few days!

Looking forward to the addiction...

lilpapa yeah i have done fowlr and done the same never really got in to it either but have always wanted to. Now my girlfriend has seen the colors and loves them so I will be doing that figured I would start smaller with the 45 and then upgrade if all goes well. but researching everything first.

Once you get bit by this hobby you'll convert the rest of your freshwater tanks to salt.

when (not if) you get a tank up and running be sure to document the whole thing for us.

Hi Reef Central
My name is Brian. I am from Indy. I have been lurking the forums for a while now trying to collect as much info on my upcoming saltwater build. This will be my first aquarium and I am pretty pumped to get this going as soon as my gf and I get our house here in a few months. I have an Aqueon 36 gal bow front my lovely gf bought me for Xmas. She knows I spend a majority of my nights researching salt tanks on here. lol. So now I can start planning my build... as soon as Aqueon emails me back on whether the back panel is tempered or not. Hopefully I will have a build thread up this spring. Can't wait!
