hi lads taught id start my with sayin hello to every one on the forum , ive started keeping fish only last year it was something i always wanted to do so i started out with a 200 litre tank with german blues rams, cardinals and some rummy nose tetra , then decided to go bigger and bought a juwel vision 450 and decided it was time to see what is was like keeping discus so a year on with a lot of taught a bought another tank still to be delivered, to go and try out marine 5x2x2 clear seal with sump , lights i went with ati 6x54 watt dimmbar

Tunze 6100 x2 & 7094 controller & magnets , i have 100 kg of live rock on the way as well , and 50 kg of sand , ive being readin a bit or a lot and get a lot of mixed reaction on how things should be done , but every body seem to mention is patience a lot of times , so with a little help i hope from people on the forum can advise me on what how to aquarscape with no dead spots , any equipment i might need , what sort of corals i should start with where they should be positioned the different fish i will be able to keep in a reef safe tank , if you can help in any way i would appreciate regards paul

Hello! I am Troffe. I'm pretty new to this with saltwater after running freshwater for 25 years. Three weeks ago I bought a saltwater (used) 45gall plug and play.

My Aquarium includes; Clownfish, Two debelius shrimps, a banana wrasse and a salaris.

Hello. I am Pat and will be accepting ALL advise from EVERYONE, LOL
I am brand new to SW and have a road ahead for sure.
Fir now I will be setting up for FOWLR, and have a 29 gallon tank about 1 and 1/2 " Live sand and prolly not enough LR but for now it seems fine.
(I bought the set up from a youngin who appears to know quite a bit)
I have three power heads (2 that are not missing theier brackets, so...) and an old whisper 60 double sided filter (NOISEY, if I can't quiet it down will get a new one, MAIN REASON I AM ASKING RIGHT NOW) I want to know a good filter to get.
I have a couple in mind but was very much confused afer readinbg a buit mnore about the testimonials of them.
Marinetime pro Emporer 400 for one. (got the idea it is loud)
Whisper x70 and a aquaclear with 300+ GPH like the rest of these. (got the impression it move TOO much water for my tank, but I also I read for my tank that would be very good.)
I Am new but not ignorant, I had Fresh water for years a long time ago, and I KNOW this is a different animal all together but I look forward to having a few cool fish in there. Until I can get a 55 or bigger when I move out of my second floor apt.
SO how many fish will be not too many?
Cleaner shrimp (saw them at the store and tey are VERY cool) Few snails perhaps?
Crabs?
I have it running with Distilled water (For almost a week now) Have to get a new test kit, bought the wrong one and I seem to get fluctuating reading with my hydrometer.
I saw an INT THE TANK type, is that good?1.028 I think and 78 degrees/
I will post more and look for answers in a few hours.

Hi, my name is Jody, from Jonesboro Arkansas, I am new to reef central and the saltwater hobby, I have a 55 gallon aquarium I got 6 weeks ago, it completed its cycle at 4 weeks, used all live substrate and jaubert system, have RO for water, 28 lbs live rock for now, have added 2 green chromis, 2 scarlet cleaner shrimp, 1 pepermint shrimp, 1 emerald crab, 5 red legged hermits, 5 blue legged hermits, 1 white legged hermit, 5 maroon snails, 5 troncus snails. Water test great, temp at 78, sg at 1.024, only have 30 watts 50/50 aquatinic 6500 k daylight, beginning to have green algae overtake brown diatoms, I would like to create reef environment when tank is better astablished and can afford adiquate lighting, Any advice ?

What's up Reef Central. I'm somewhat new to saltwater tanks, about 2 years or so now of owning my own, although I've been cleaning them for about 3 years. I recently took over the business I was working for and am attempting to gain more business. I started out with a 30gal reef tank, which I had until this past September when I upgraded to a fish only 55. Around 2 weeks ago I started adding coral (Kenya tree's to start) and so far everything is going fine. About a month ago I purchased a Pakistan Butterfly, which, unfortunately came down with ich and caused all but my Green Wolf Eel to kick the bucket. So for the past week my female has had the tank to herself until today when I purchased a smaller male, about 4 inches in difference. Does anyone have any suggestions? She has been following him around, and both have been "vibrating" against each other. I noticed in another post that this was normal, but is it a sign of mating, or is it a dominance thing? :fish2:

Well i am fairly new here. I jiust got a 75 gal Display set up with a 55 gal sump. I have added 150 pounds on LS from a LFS and put 90# of Doc. Walt Smith premieum LR to the tank so for. The tank is of courses cycling with the ammonia at 2 PPM and the nitrites up to .5 PPM. How do these numbers look? I would like to start adding a cleac-up crew when it is safe.

Hello all. I'm about as green as it gets. I'm new to forums, new to Reef Central, and new to Saltwater. I had freshwater tanks for 15 yrs but got out of the hobby after a power failure. Fast forward 8 yrs later...tankless, married with a 4 yr old son, I go to the LFS to get his first 10 gallon tank and BOOM, I'm once again bitten by the bug. I think I'm ready to brave my first foray into the wonderful world of Saltwater. Can't wait to get my first reef-ready tank rolling. I'm still in the planning stages. Pretty certain I'm going to go with at least 75 gallons, somewhere between 36-48" wide, 18+ inches deep and no more than 24" tall. Leaning toward either a new Deep Blue Rimless 75 or maybe a used framed setup with a canopy. Keeping options open and I welcome suggestions and advice.

Hi I am Alan from Michigan. I have had fresh water tanks for the last 5-6 years and have wanted to switch to a saltwater reef tank for a while now. Friday morning the decision was made easier by a catastrophic failure of my 46 gallon bowfront tank in my living room. I am going to spend the next week or so dealing with insurance and deciding on what tank and stand to use and reading all I can on setting up a successful reef tank.

Hi all,

Tom from Puerto Rico. We are from the East Coast, and my job has brought me down to this gorgeous island. My wife made the mistake of adopting a basic freshwater 30 g tank from friends moving back to the mainland, and I have tweaked it into a fun little FOWLR for the kids. Benefits of living near the beach: cheap live sand, and free water changes! Downside: expensive shipping, hard to get livestock.

I had a FO 20 g that I adopted from a friend when we lived on the West coast many years back, and learned that if you are willing to keep up with water changes every week, this does not need to be an expensive hobby.

....That is until you get the itch to slide towards reef....I'm in the midst of falling off the cliff, have a nice skimmer now, nice mature FOWLR with lots of happy critters, and just ordered a 4 bulb T5 fixture after my last trip to the LFS...

I must say this is an impressive community of knowlege, and I'm looking forward to learning more! If there is anyone on here from PR, drop me a line.
