I am new to "reef central". I use to have a 55g saltwater (FO) about 11yrs ago. My old system had bioballs etc. I am in the process of setting up a 125g reef tank. So I am sure I will be here quite often reading the archives before I ask my questions. :twitch:

I took a big hiatus from 92 to 07 and there was such big leaps in new products and way things are done. be sure to catch up on everything new.

I just got into reefing this year (6 months ago). I have a 120 w/ 70 refugium. 70 lbs of LR. The fish I have
- Blue Hippo
- Yellow Tang
- Pair of Clowns
- yellow head jaw fish
- Blue spotted jaw fish
- Lineatus Wrasse
- 2 ORA Mandrin Dragonets.

I'm have a lot of room for coral. Looking for colorful and rare pcs - researching good encrusting corals. I lean towards LPS. Have some nice Torchs pcs and a couple nice Chalice an Large Dendro and Red Flower Pot

Hey everyone!!!! Living in the Tallahassee area and very excited to get my tank going. My set up is a 65g hex with sump, with rock instead of bioballs, and live rock in tank, live sand as well. Dont know what size pump is in the sump, and i also have a maxi jet 600 angling upward towards the return hose. Lighting is T5 HO fixture with 2 bulbs, though currently only have an actinic and curious about what to put in the other. At the moment it's almost done with its cycling and im stoked to start getting real fish and corals. Creatures at the moment include 3 blue/yellow damsels, clown, hermits and snails, and a bristleworm some where, and 1 and a 1/2 6 point starfish. Well that's my life story for the moment any help would be greatly appreciated and looking forward to being a reefer.

Have you found the LPS section yet?

The 120 is a great size to fill up with coral, just make sure you plan it out so that they have room to grow.

Not to many hex tanks around these parts, I think they are neat tanks.
as far as lights it all depends on what you are planning to have in the tank as far as corals. If you aren't going to have light demanding corals any color bulb that is pleasing to your eye will do. however if it's light demanding corals then you need to take that into account. I would suggest asking the grim reefer in this thread he will steer you in the right direction.

Brand Spanking new.
Just scored a full Salt Water setup for free!! Guy never used it when he moved into his condo.

The setup from what I know now. Tank is 6'x12"x18" (67 gallon I believe), and a 33 gallon to go below. A 125 gallon coral life super skimmer, LEE'S PREMIUM UNDER GRAVEL FILTER for 30 gallon. Lights, and a bunch of other stuff I haven't even looked at yet. I'll be posting my progress as I go. The only fish I've ever owned, was when I was about 5. So this will be a huge learning curve.

Hello, I'm Jenny and I'm a newbie as well. Just broke down and surprised my husband with his first tank after months of his begging and trying to convince me that it would look nice in our house (I was adamant that if we ever got one, it would look like a nice piece of furniture with a canopy!). I'm hoping that I didn't just turn our home into a bachelor pad, haha. After a little research, we quickly switched modes from wanting a freshwater tank to venturing into the world of saltwater.

I've been stalking the forums for a couple of weeks now gleaning information on what we need and what it all does. I have to say, I am super impressed with many of the members on here (CustomColor, I am loving your style and skill!).

At the moment our tank stands empty- I am currently designing a stand for a 72 gallon bowfront tank on Google Sketchup. We are starting from the ground up, and of course on a limited budget (why again, did we choose saltwater? This is already expensive and I don't have anything but a tank! lol. but seriously, not laughing that hard) I'm really excited and am looking forward to this hobby. Originally, it was all my husband's project, but I love to research and I find myself lost in all of the details. Truly an adventure.
