If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi, my name is Maria and I am from Santa Monica, CA. I was in the hobby over 20 years ago. Returning to the hobby now. Pleased to see the advancements made in the hobby. Started back again now with a Biocube 29gal that I plan to set up as a reef to ease back in slowly. Enjoying the cycling period right now and reading up a storm. Love, love, Reef Central. What a phenomenal source of knowledge and information. I am addicted to it and finding myself up at all hours reading up so many informative posts. THANK YOU!

Hello Everyone, Not sure if I am adding to this thread correctly but here it goes. I am very new to the salt water tank experience. I started my tank about 2 months again. I have a 29gal with 2 ocellaris clowns, 1 diamondback sand shifter goby (so much fun watching him re-decorate the tank), 1 firefish goby, 1 fiddler crab and my issue now is my sharknose goby. I had him for about two weeks. The first week he was swimming around and relaxing on the LR and now for this past week I can not find him. I don't want to stress my other fish by moving rocks to check. Would something in my tank have eaten him or is he really hiding. I am scheduled to do a water change this weekend so I may search more at that time. Thoughts??

I'm still quite new myself, but test the water in the tank. If its dead then you will have a spike of some sort, especially in a tank that small. Someone correct me if im wrong, still learning here :P

Hello, love the forum. Been lurking for a few minutes. I've been researching the heck out of the hobby for a few weeks. Always wanted into the hobby and finally make the right kind of money. Other than my interest in starting a reef aquarium, I make beer, cider and wine. Believe it or not, there are some similarities between these hobbies.

Anyway, looking for something 65-150 gallon or so. Want to go as nice as possible right from the start. See ya around the forum.

After stepping into forum websites I've been more active than ever in fishkeeping more than ever. However, I lack knowlage on keeping regular fishes and average joe aquarium species but I am very familiar on octopi. I need to cover my gap on keeping something that doesn't have multiple arms and tentecles for a little bit (though your probably going to find me posting in the cephalopods forum). Yes...I'm from TOMNO (if some of you may be wondering).

after a few years break im getting back into the hobby .... looooove the new led pendants. the old hamilton mh detracted from the tank too much.

Hello from Ho Chi Minh City

Hello from Ho Chi Minh City

Just getting started here. have arranged for a turnkey setup of a 135 gallon reef tank. The local fish shops all say it is about a 5 day cyle time, and will be stocking with corals and fish this weekend. They guarantee the fish and corals for 3 months, and will continue the servicing through setup.

One concern I have here is the chiller does not have a thermostat, but only a rheostat to control the temperature. An independent thermometer will be in the tank.

Will be able to select the fish and coral this weekend, so any suggestions on compatibilities is appreciated.

I know how you feel. I was out of the hobby for close to 10 years. A lot has changed.

Well, I'm fairly new to the hobby, and I'm definitely new here, so here goes! I started out mid way through last year trying to convert fancy guppies to salt water, it was fun, but eventually I got bored with it, my original goal was to breed saltwater fancy guppies so that people would have attractive, cheap feeder fish that they could just throw in their tank, leave alone, and let their predatory fish consume at their leisure, but some how along the way I picked up a firefish... then a clown... and then I was hooked.

All that was in a series of 10 gallon tanks. then I bought a 56 gallon corner tank, and set it up. everything was going well until I got MI. That sucked, lesson learned.

And now I'm on my current tank... A 65 gallon penn plax that I built a wall for in between my living room and dining room. I love looking through it from one room to the other through the starphire glass, lol. It's like looking thru a prism.

Anyway, that what there is about me so far... Let's get this show on the road!

New to reefs and RC

I currently have two aquariums a 75 planted tank and a 50 future reef, I am new to saltwater other than a unmitigated disaster 15 years ago. Currently researching a 50 gallon (36x18x18) reef using 2 x 96 wattt PC, 20 gallon sump (w refugium?) mag 5 pump and a hydor for circulation . I have it set up with cichlids now just learning the tank and waiting for the lights to arrive. Planning 75 - 100 lbs of (dead)rock about 10 lbs of live and live sand. Am thinking a single cheeaper fish to cycle with.?. I would like to request budget consious protien skimmer suggestions and any stocking advice to produce a KA ocellaris clownfish habitat with anemone's. Any advise is appreciated, as always budget consiously yours, Driver3490

Hello everyone. I am brand new and just set up my Oceanic Bio Cube HQI yesterday and so far so good I guess. I started out with a nice Live Rock Aquascape and Live Sand to get the cycle going on the tank. It has only been 24 hours and the clarity of the tank is excellent. I just tested the water for the 1st time and it appears all my levels are also in order. Kinda amazed to be honest because my experience with Freshwater tanks cycling has been much more lengthy. However, I am still going to wait several more days before I introduce anything live to the tank. Does anyone else have this tank? Recommendations on what live species are best with this tank?

Thank you,
Gio

Hello RC, new hobbyist here. My pal moved away and I inherited his 2 year old, 55g. I have never owned a fish tank in my life, so I had to study up quickly to keep it looking good. This website is great, and without the search function I would be completely lost. Also learned a lot from Bob Fenner's book, Conscientious Marine Aquarist (highly recommend for beginners like myself). I can say, without hesitation, I've become deeply addicted to reefing over the past month. Thanks to all the people who take the time to post about their experiences, they are very helpful to lurkers like myself. I intend to be less reclusive in the future, and hope to post my new 20L build in the nano section soon!
