Semi-new to the forum

Hi guys,
I started a small aquarium service/installation company in Los Angeles (licensed) and this is my first post as company :)! I'm still in the startup stages of finding good wholesalers (any help would be appreciated). I'm going to concentrate on setting up beginner tanks for local costumers and will eventually move into being able to fully stock them as well (no storefront so I'm having issues getting wholesale accounts with some wholesalers). I've setup 2 tanks already, for a friend and referral, but I have a lot to learn when it comes procuring, pricing and timing the business (no stock on hand so I have to better time delivery of goods).

I'm fairly new to reefing ~5 years but during that time I've built about 10 tanks all with varying degrees of initial success. I've posted on here as Aranax a while ago but have not been active as of late, something I'm going to change from this point forward.

In any case, I really appreciate the engagement of this community and I welcome and advice, suggestions or criticism that may help me. Thanks.

Hello boys and girls,

New to the hobby only having freshwater tanks when younger. Now have to younger children that are interested in saltwater aquariums after watching some fake drama scripted tv show. Been lurking for a few weeks looking and educating myself about this hobby. Looking forward to building a reef/fish tank with the kids. We will be going slow and buy the pieces as our budget allows.

new here to RC. man im really having a hard time getting my tank going. i have a trigon 190 corner tank. i replaced the filtration system it came with, with a coral life 65g skimmer. i have about 45lbs of new supposed key largo rock, and bout 5lbs of live from a local store, along with some small pieces i picked up off the shore line localy. i have about 4in of sand picked up off the shore as well. i had this tank started while i was in germany, but just recently moved to hawaii on the island of oahu. i must say getting things going here in hawaii has been a real challenge. here is a pic of my tank as of now. the tank is about 1 month old. was just wondering should i go ahead and pull the live rocks to give them a scrubing, and get rid of the pests? and apparent source of phosfates.
trying to upload pics 1 moment please.

i would like this to be a soft coral and fish tank, if i can get it going like i want. the ph reads about 8.0 to 8.4. salinity is about 1.24 on float tube. at 80 degrees f.
let me know if you need any other specs. i know i need a refractor for salinity. but doing the best with what i got.

hi all , I'm tom - back in the hobby after 4 yr hiatus. a recent "tanked" episode and a crazy dream gave me the bug again:idea:. Just finished 1st ever tank drill for 57g overflow and return . Also building a DIY stand.
This time around I plan to use a local vacation service when away.

Greetings from Sac Town

Hey everyone! Glad to be apart of this community. My name is Yeena and i have been collecting corals (mainly zoa) for a while now but was never active on any forums until recently. Ill be sure to post up some pics of what i have to share with you guys when i get a better camera.:wavehand:

Hi guys/gals! Im new to this forum so a little about me..

3 years into the trade now. I started with a 30gal tank running a canister filter. Then within 6 months I traded up and ran a 35gal tank with central overflow and 20gal sump. I ran this for over 2.5 years, about 1.5 years into this I was able to get a custom made tank/stand/sump. This is my current tank.

70x20x20 (125gal) with central overflow and eurobraced top. The sump is 5' long and aprox 65gal. It has been up for about a month now.

Hoping to find more knowledge here as I have never had a tank this big ever.

Full tank shot as of May 18th 2013

hi!

55 gal reef tank
60lb of live rock so far, prob add a total of 20lb for a max of 80
about 2- 2 1/2 of live sand
a proflex system model 1 with a refugium with an inch of live sand and algae. and a return pump
4' t5 light coralife
heater in the tank not the proflex, if i put it in the proflex where would i put it? because i keep it pretty cold in the house, i thought it was better in the tank.

4x scarlet hermit
4x blue hermit
1x unkown hermit
1x unkown snail
4x turbo snail
3x emerald crab
3x clown (2 red banded) (1 oscelated)
2x cleaner shrimp
1x peppermint shrimp
1x blood red shrimp

everything looks like its adjusted fine. Ph levels fine. nitrates and ammonia levels are good. Temp-74f

Thoughts?
critique?
advice?

Hi, my name is mike I have been caring for others reef tanks for a few years now and finally did away with my freshwater tanks! Salt is the way to go! There is so much to learn and I love it! I will put pics of my tank when my son dors it for me!lol, I think I will love this club, I have met a few of you around town, thanks for allowing me in this club!

not rely new to the hobby making a return trip to what i love, future plans to set up my 300 gal as a fowlr or a mixed reef, and my trusty 55 gal cube as a full reef all looped threw a 200 gallon sump.

Hello fellow reefers. I've been using the site for a while now and love it. It's a great place for problem solving as well as learning about the countless components involved.

I have had a fish tank my entire life but first went to salt in 2005. My first reef tank was a 140gal with crushed coral for substrate and two hang on filters. I had it equipped with 6 t-5s. It was jam packed with mostly lps and leathers, as well as the usual suspects for a beginner. This tank ran perfect for four years with just a 20% water change monthly. Then I sold my house.

After moving I set up a 'temporary' 55gal tank with many of my original corals with a 190 in mind for the future. This tank is still kicking and has had a 36" ruby elite added to it. yes it looks like frankenstein. I have two 150w metal halides over it along with a 48" blue led bar. In the sump I have a vertex 180, a mag 12 for the return, a brs gfo reactor, and a brs carbon reactor. The refugium has a miracle mud base with a 1-2" course sand bed covering it. I am using two brs dosers for my two part and having varied success. I really miss my 140.

About a year ago I set up another 55gal to cure some dry rock and handle the overflow of coral growth. It has a hang on filter and I use poly filters as well for anything unseen. It has been a solid performer with great growth from all my corals. I have it equipped with 6 t-5s as well as a marine fusion 12" led strip (bound for the refugium on the 190 setup).

Two months ago I got my DSA 190. Ever so slowly I have been getting things in place to make the transition. I figured now would be a great time to chime in. Thanks to this forum I have gotten some cool ideas and will include pics etc as I move forward. Here are some shots of the two tanks currently running. I hope to start adding water to the 190 in the next month or so.

New reefer

New reefer

Hi my name is frank and I'm new to the hobby. I have had a forty breeder running for about two months now with just rock and sand and was looking into what kind of lighting I was gunna get. A friend has turned me on to the al vega which looks and sounds good but does any one have one that can tell me about it and how many I would need for my tank . Or even if there is a better light for me I plan on have corals of all sorts so I'm looking for a good light.
