Hello All! My name is Ruth, I have been using this website for so much info to get started with my reef/seahorse tank. I've had my 40 gallon tank for about 5 months and I already have plans to upgrade to a 150 gallon by march! This hobby is sooooo addicting! And FUN :) I still cant quite get a grip on my nitrates but everything else is good, Im hoping the bigger tank and sump/refuge will help the issue

Wassup every one!!! My name is amin and I've been a tank owner for 20 years. Always kept freshwater tanks but visited this site to look at your beautiful tanks!! Now I'm registered and own a 5 gallon nano tank. I figure if I can do a good job taking care of a 5 gallon then I can upgrade in the future. See you guys and gals around!

Hello Reef Central. Travis from Indiana here. I have a had a 90 gallon African cichlid tank for a little over a year now. I have been thinking about trying to start another tank and move into a reef tank. Looking forward to learning a lot. Thanks for letting me be a part of the forum.

New to RC - 65 Gallon

New to RC - 65 Gallon

I'm new to RC and this is my first post and request for advice. I've a 65G tank with a wet/dry bio ball fish only sump, SmartUV (18W), and need to understand how to upgrade the sump to a coral ready tank. I've a AQMaxx EM200 In-Sump Skimmer on the way, but interested to hear what else I can do with the wet/dry & sump to make it coral ready. Everything I've read says I need to get rid of the bio-balls - hoping to get feedback on how to do this and set up the sump. I'm in no rush and want to get this right - thank you for your advice.

Hello everyone!

My name is Jillian. I currently have a "future" 125 reef tank. Right now, it just has my live rock and live sand but hopefully we will be getting some corals soon.

Right now the tank is being inhabited by;
1 Yellow Tail Damsel
1 Three Stripe Damsel
1 Blue-Green Chromis
2 Yellow Damsels

Hi! I'm new to Reef Central, and haven't had a reef in 10 years. Just finished setting up an Aqueon Evolve 8 gallon nano yesterday. Found myself glued to the tank the past day! I forgot how interesting they can be!

So far:
Rock - piece of Fiji base rock, with a bit of Tonga and Pukani, and one piece of interesting coral skeleton. Hopefully it's all cured since it has been in the dealer tanks for 5-8 weeks.

One inch of CaribSea live sand.

Hit the jackpot with hitchhikers! So far I've seen 2 blue legs, 3 bumble bees (which were obvious, but they didn't remove), and a tiny brittle star. The piece of coral skeleton had 3 little zoa polyps open up, so I hope the tank doesn't cycle.

Plan to have an ocellaris clown and a skunk cleaner. I've never had zoas before, so that's my main focus this time, and I'd love to have a torch. Possibly a frag of pulsing xenia, assuming I have a spot where it can be it's own little island.

New JBJ 45 RL

New JBJ 45 RL

I've been into marine Aquariums for over 10 years, but have never had a reef tank, and I will be setting this one up shortly.

Picture of aquarium attached.

The tank was purchased directly from JBJ down in Compton, Ca. I also purchased the Current USA - Orbit Marine LED lighting.

I had the stand custom built by a local builder, I will be staining the stand very soon.

I am considering buying the RO/DI Buddy for the water solution, does anyone have any suggestions for the RO system?

Also, while on the new topic, does anyone have any opinions on Dr Tims Bacteria in a bottle? I was considering purchasing some to quick start the aquarium.

Additionally is it necessary to run a protein skimmer on my JBJ 45, or is this just an expensive add-on.

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for a newbie with a Reef aquarium.

:hmm5:

Hey I am an Ohioan. Two established FW systems. After finishing decking out my 150 I started reading about sumps, refugiums, and lighting systems to see where my next improvement was going to be. This inevitably lead me to a 30 gal nano reef tank. (would have been bigger but the wife threatened to leave) so yeah hi

hi newbie here and joined the forum to learn more about building/maintaining a marine tank. hope this forum would help me build a good first aquarium

Hello all,

Been in the saltwater game for a little under a year. I've had fresh before, but nothing major.

Started off with a 5 gal with a blue chromis. (I know the smaller tank is harder, but I didn't know that until it was too late, but everything seems to be going well, just fast evaporation).

But I've decided to grow, and I bought a 29 gal and I'm going to start building that. I've decided to take it slow with the build and try and do things the right way when the money comes in.

I know I want a sump, and I'm going to buy a 10 gal soon to use as a sump. This will be my first foray into drilling glass, and piping and all that. So any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Matt
