If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hey everyone just bought a BC 14 and started the cycling using all the information I read on here. So far so good. I am a rookie but hope I don't offend anyone. I've seen some pretty hot "debates" on some posts. I know everyone will do things differently so I guess I will figure out what's best for me in time. I'm in Charlotte NC so if anyone has info on good shops and people to know please let me know. I'm a long way from adding livestock but is never to early to know people and where to go for help.

Glass Aquarium Vendors/Manufacturers

Glass Aquarium Vendors/Manufacturers

Hey guys and gals, I wanted to reach out to everyone about finding a quality aquarium manufacturer or vendor in the Texas area. I was in the process of a new 75g reef build and noticed a chip on the outsided corner seam of the DT I had planned to use. Rather than risk it (a cheaper Petco tank I've had for about 5 years unused) Im pulling the trigger and ordering a new tank. Im also looking around for anyone who might be parting with one, something in the all glass rimless 75-100g range. Although I havent had a running system since 2009, I've kept up with the hobby through forums and clubs and articles. I dont mind getting one delivered if within my budget, but I am interested in picking it up myself if within a few hours drive and would save any money compared to gas expense to retrieve it myself. So to recap:

>75-100g Rimless All-Glass
(Does not have to be R/R as I can drill it and I have an internal overflow)

>Ideal dimension would be 48"X18"/24"X18"

>Familiar with Starphire glass and like it but not required

>In Texas

>About $400

Once again these are all ideal parameters but not deal breakers. I would greatly appreciate any help with finding the right vendor or manufacturer.

Thanks,
Jdubbs

Hello to all!

My name's Will but everybody calls me Rad91. I'm from Leeds in the UK.

I'm relatively new to fishkeeping... in fact I started this hobby about 6 months ago. I've got 2 Freshwater tanks going at the moment and it's going like a dream so far.

I've ALWAYS been fascinated by corals though, well, marine life in general. I recently saw a 3 gallon coral tank video and it got me researching saltwater tanks! Now here I am... hooked!!

I'm a bit of an oddball at this point... I have to admit! I've got no room for another tank :hmm3: I'm living with my parents for the next 2 years and then I'll be moving out into my own house. THEN I'll be getting a saltwater tank set up!

Until then, I'm going to be on here asking question after question, but I wont have a tank for a while :furious: hmmmm... it's a strange scenario right?

Well... it gives me a couple of years to research stuff and more importantly... SAVE UP SOME MONEY! I've been researching SW tanks for about 3 hours per day for the last week and I think I understand the basics now. It's just a matter of reading other people's experiences and planning my perfect tank ready for when I get my own house!

Looking forward to speaking with you people!

Rad91

Hey I'm Chris

Hey I'm Chris

Hello all,

So about me? We are Chris and Hanna. We are just starting with our first salt-water aquarium. It is 200 Liters (50 gallons) we have 2 2500L/hr pumps and a Tunze9011 skimmer. Currently in the middle of cycling with live rock (about 25Kg) with a crushed coral bed. Will be adding a 60 Liter sump in the coming weeks.

Hi all, I am new to the hobby after a long hiatus, and having a few issues. I am trying to start a new thread, but not sure how to do it? I have a 110 gallon reef tank with mixed corals and fish.

Looking forward to learning here, it seems to be the best forum I have found so far.

Hi RC! I'm Brannon and my wife is Danielle. We are both excited to be entering the saltwater aquarium hobby. We are both novices and are just now in the research stages, and figuring out exactly what we want. The only thing we know right now is that we have space set aside for a 90 gallon tank and have been looking at the Marineland Corner-Flo tank with Monterey stand and canopy. We will be asking for a lot of assistance as we move forward. We want to start with a FOWLR setup, but only stock reef safe livestock as we would like to move up to a reef system once we get the hang of everything. We also want to buy equipment that will work for both FOWLR and Reef communities, including lighting. We look forward to sharing our adventure with all of you.

Hi there new member here from Athens, Greece. Started setting up, together with a very enthusiastic team by local shop myaquarium.gr a 3 tank system, 2 reef already underway: custom 300gal (1100lt) with 80gal (380lt) sump and a 'plug & play' Innovative Marine 40gal NUVO Fusion (150lt). Future project will include a purpose built custom seahorse 40gal tank linked to the 300gal tank as a 2nd refugium. Will post soon pictures and technical specs under the large tank section. Looking forward to advice and ideas from the reef 'veterans' in the forum!

I figure I should do the obligitory intro. I'm new to the forum but not new to the hobby although I'm getting back into doing a salt tank after about an 8 year absence. I've done freshwater tanks my whole life.

Current set ups are
155 bowfront, planted, mixed tropical (mostly angels and gourami)
40 gal dwarf cichlid
93 cube reef, build n progress

Looking forward to interacting with forum members and on various tank build threads and soliciting advice and ideas from members on my own build thread.

Hi,

a Hello from France/Paris. I already own 2 reef tank since 4 years, 4Gal. and 20Gal. I will terminate the bigger one and currently building a 80Gal. I came here to find help building my 5 ch. driver PCB.

Cheers,

Hi!
I am a new member, and have already gotten a lot of help on new to the hobby.
I currently have a 75 gal, empty, and a lot of plans for the future. I also have a 40b sump, which I built myself.

Back in the game!

Back in the game!

Hello RC. My name is John and I am getting back into the hobby after an 18 year hiatus. The wife and I broke down our old tank before our son who is 17 was born. We missed our tank and have decided to start the adventure again. Our tank was a 65 gallon tall, vho lighting, with wet dry and little giant pump. We had a powder blue, sailfin, chevron, lawnmower blenny, and 2 cleaner shrimp along with numerous corals. So much has changed and the more I read some things are the same. I was looking for a thread on cycling the tank and have not found it yet. Well enough of that, I am happy to be back! Hoping to start cycling the tank in a couple weeks as soon as I finish the Tank stand and canopy.

Our new tank set up is a 90 gallon Aqueon with overflow, E-shopps R-300, Coralife 220 Super Skimmer, TLF phosban 150 reactor, Mars Aqua 300 watt LED.
I may add another 165 watts of Lighting if that's not enough. I will also be adding about 60 pounds of live rock.

Looking forward to getting some help and helping others if possible!

Thanks RC!
