If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hello Everyone. Just getting back into the hobby after ten years. Have a 75G, 56g and 40G freshwater tanks. Getting rid of the 75 fresh and setting up a 75 RR. Have a Proflex 4 sump ( yes probably overkill), a Mag 12, Mag7 pump so far. Live in TALLAHASSEE, FL.

Hello

Hello

Hi Everyone...I was told by a few different people this was the site to join. I recently just got involved in the hobby. I have a friend with a few decades experience helping me along the way and have have found several nice hobbiest at lfs who are willing to share some knowledge. As for me I have a 40 gallon with a hob filter and led lights...nothing fancy. I just added a ecotech mp10 and have a few frags and fish. This tank evolved from an established 14 gallon.

Hi There

Hi There

Hi Everyone,

Anton here, Aussie based in London. After a long time away from fish keeping, I'm jumping back in with my first marine aquarium. It's very exciting!

I'm day 7 into cycling a Fluval M90, just waiting out the smell! Even before joining, this board has been so much help. Thank you.

Looking forward to the fruits of this labour and hope to speak to you all soon.

Cheers,
Anton

Hello Everyone,

Nemo is the name 😉
And fish are my game!

I've been in the hobby for maybe about 2 years now. However, a majority of the tank upkeep and care of fish was done by my ex. In our split he took the tanks. It didn't last long untill I went out and bought myself a tank.

At least this time around I can do my own aquascape and the fish I want.

To start my new adventure off I have a 12 gallon long. I look forword to making it a pretty little nano tank.

I'm always look for information and new knowledge about fish keeping.

Hi Everyone!

I'm Dan and I'm from a small town called Mansfield in England!

I've been successfully running a 30 gal fresh water aquarium for a few years now and after a home move I decided to take on a smaller 15 gal marine mixed coral and fish tank.

Although I have done a lot of research I still have plenty of questions as to which a quick google brought up with website and put me on to you guys! :)

The tank has literally been setup today with pre mixed water from my lps, heater. small filter and roughly 6.5kg live rock (although more will be added next week). I'm going to be doing a small blog to maybe help people along in the same boat as me and hopefully prevent them making the mistakes I might make along the way.

Hey guys, Omer from Istanbul, I would like to introduce my 6 months old setup and to get your precious comments.
Here are the equipments and tank info
125*50*55h cm tank full with 65 gallons water
30 gallons sump
Taotronics tt-al16 120W LED fixture (14k whites, 470nm blues, ultraviolet, moonlight)
Bubble Magus Curve 7 Protein Skimmer
Eheim Compact 2000 power head
Koralia Hydor Circulation Pumps
Eheim UV
RO/DI water with H2O D&D salt
Eheim Jager Heater
2 clowns, 1 yellow tang, 1 blue tang
1 torch coral, 1 branching hammer coral, 1 mushroom
5 snails, 1 starfish
Dead coral skeleton as rock base

Brief Story:
10 days after establishment I've added 2 clowns and they were quite happy. Tangs and a Moorish Idol are also added following the diatom process. However I've lost my Moorish Idol because of nitrate bloom. After this depression I've fixed nitrate problem with vodka dosing, adding 14 gallon Caribsea prep. water and Matrix Seachem additions.

My readings are great nowadays almost 0 nitrate/nitrite/ammonia/phosphate. However I am not testing calcium, alkalinity and magnesium which are my goals. I am doing %20 water change per month.

Questions
Despite 6 months has passed as it can be seen in the pictures there are algea growth on the sand bed. Diatom has been passed 5 months ago and it was lot more brownish when it's compared with current greenish algea on the sand bed. I don't know why but It maybe result of the strong lighting since I can not dim leds down automatically. I am running them %100 for almost 6 hours.

Also I don't know why coralline is not growing at all? I have started dosing Kent Purple Tech 2 days ago but also maybe UV is affecting it?

Goals
Need to add dosing pump for CA/Alkalinity/Mg
Will add Jebao RW circulation pump
Will add 10 more mixed corals
Will add blue carpet anemone (not sure)
Will add purple tang (not sure)
Will add tulle cover on top of the tank to avoid dust in the air

New here, but only semi new to reef keeping. I had a 50 gallon reef tank about 20 years ago. Long story short, lost power for days and lost everything in the tank, so I decided to do away with it(I rented back then. I now own my home and have a big genny.)

I purchased a 29gallon coralife biocube and have been cycling it now for about 6 weeks. I currently have 35 pounds of live sand, roughly 40 pounds of live rock, 2 hydor corralia 425 pumps running, and used the youtube video of reefthuz to modify the filter(Knew the bioballs were junk, they were just becoming popular when I got out of the hobby). Basically it consists of an aquatic life 115 skimmer(modified to fit) in the first chamber, 2 large reticulated foam pads, water polishing pad on top of that, and 14L of seachem matrix in the second section, a bag of purigen, and a bag of seachem matrix carbon.

So far I have 3 bumblebee sails, 4 turbo snails, 4 margarita snails, 3 scarlet hermits, 3 emerald crabs, and a maroon clown. Everything seems to be doing great so far, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and my nitrates are a bit high(40ppm, doing weekly water changes to combat that right now).

I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot more of me around here. Quite a bit has changed in equipment, practices, and price in 20 years!! I have a lot of questions and I surely know how to use a forum including the search function!!

Just saying hello and will be posting an update of my first tank on the New To Hobby section. Seen a lot of posts from this place and without even meaning too, i have come to find out when it comes to salt water... Most of the answers are here.

I'm ordering my first tank soon. 65G Rimless (48x18x16) w/ Starphire Glass. Drilled for an overflow box. Sump too! I'm nervous and excited and glad to be part of this forum now. Fingers crossed!

I'll try my hardest not to ask ?s just to get someone to agree with me on something you all know I shouldn't do :jester:
Right now I already have too many fish in my 28-gallon nano-aquarium and I will be giving away a few when they get too big, but I started out buying at my lfs and just took what I could get.

1 Nemo and 1 black Nemo (ocellaris)
2 pajama fish
2 small green chromis
2 small blue Sapphires
1 lawnmower, 1 yellow watchmen
1 mandarin dragonet
& 1 citrines clown goby

They're all medium size now, and my tank parameters are really good due to weekly wc a good protein skimmer and small air stone. I have 1inch fine sand and 2inch coarse sand on top. About 20 lbs figi live rock and a few good handfuls of algae strategically placed in the tank and the refugium. I'm running stock CF lights and coral has been growing fast and with good color, but I'm having a Current USA Orbit Marine LED delivered Friday and I can't wait to see how it works.
Corals so far:
1 Candy cane and 1green trumpet
2 brain
5 mushrooms
1 lemon tree
A bunch of Zoanthids and a couple more I can't remember the names of. Oh, and a pink Haitian anemone.
Every one is doing great and I have had most of them for at least 6 months.
I love tips and advice, so please feel free to throw some my way. Thanks.

Howzit everyone, new to the forum but not to the hobby. Starting up a 29 gallon reef tank shortly since the last of my daughter's Lionheads finally died and she agreed to do a reef tank, just waiting for some deliveries next week of Reef Rocks and my skimmer. I've had tanks since I was a kid from Goldfish to South American Cichlids to African Cichlids to Discus to Arowanas and of course saltwater tanks. Had my first saltwater tank back when the Berlin Method started to catch on and Julian Sprung released his first book, damn I'm old. Can't wait to look over tons of threads and see what has changed since my last tank a good 10 years ago. :reading:

Hey y'all

Brand new to the hobby, setting up a 40 gal FOWLR (for now) with my little 4 year old......here is hoping that all goes well.....done tons of research into the hobby and all seems to be going ok so far.....however, I am only 2 weeks into it!!! Not planning on adding any livestock besides live rock until my kids birthday which is on May long weekend (Canadian). May 21.
