If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi I'm mike. I recently started a 10g reef.

Got my CUC, 2 clowns, a frogspawn and a zoa colony.
Tank is 3 Months old.

Already want a way way bigger tank :P

Hey, I'm John, brand new to the salt side of things, though I've lurked here for many years and my father has had a saltwater tank ever since I was young. I got into the high tech planted tank world (CO2, auto fert dosing, high light, etc) but tore my tank down before a move and now would really like to turn it into a reef tank. So... here I am!

A Big Hello to all

A Big Hello to all

Hello my name is Ian, i live many miles away in the uk (Lancashire) not too far from Manchester.
I have been browsing RC on / off for a long time but have now joined be good to get some mixed advice and browse your forums etc..
I have been into marines for yrs on / off due to house moves etc..
I have always had fish / corals softys / LPS, but only the odd easy SPS.
I broke down my last rimless / braceless tank which was sumped 2 yrs ago due to a house move, i am in the process of selling our home now and buying another where i intend to be for at least 3 yrs and have bought a 3 month old RSM 250 with Apex installed, Maxpect razor, MP40 etc.. for a brilliant price. This will be set up when we move.
I collected all the loot last Saturday & have been busy cleaning everything back to a as new condition and the live rock has been bleached and is currently soaking in fresh water, 2 baby clowns hosting nems and CUC taken to a fish shop not too far away.
I work in construction on bridge structures, have 2 beautiful daughters (the younger 1 age nearly 21 graduated yesterday from University) another 23yrs, a beautiful partner of 23yrs & a tinker of a grand-daughter nearly 3yrs who i take to the fish shop regularly.
In this tank i am thinking.... Red Sea 21 day maturation process ? and Nopox i think, then dose Balling Light Calcium, Alk, Mag when all is stable and i have a good understanding of how the tank is running.
On previous tanks i have used Kalk in top off water, and altered Mag with epson salts drip fed overnight and used cheato in a fuge i made in the tank with great results and very little effort.
Anyway i have joined, gave a brief introduction, and look forward to advice please if needed.
Many Thanks:wave:

Hi everyone!

Hi everyone!

Hello!

My name is Gustavo Barizon. I live in Denver, Colorado and started a saltwater tank in February 2016.

When I was young, I had fresh water small tanks, and it always dreamt to maintain a saltwater tank. Thanks to my lovely wife, who's supporting me, I finally started out a 55 gallon FOWLR tank and I can tell you that a dream come true!

On this four months, I'm learning a lot, reading and trying to do everything on its time and in a slow and natural pace. It seems I'm getting a good result and so far, my tank is thriving and looking great!

I'm a techie guy, so I'm doing some automation on a few aspects, such as turning on / off power heads and light, as well as temperature readings, using some IoT (Internet of things) in a DYI fashion.

I'm looking forward to contribute as well as learn from this group.

Thanks and let's reefing! :)

- Gustavo

Hoping for some assistance identifying the name of this species, so I joined the forum, but evidently don't get to post a thread yet. Thanks for any help!

hi Rc

hi Rc

My name is robert. second atempt at saltwater. First tank crashed due to human error. this time i have a 75 gallon 4ft long cycling some rock for a monster 210 6ft long . will be mixed reef.

New here- from Boston, USA. This is my second go-round with a marine tank. The first was as a high school student over 12 years ago (20 gal. fish only). I've been itching to own a home/ be somewhere long enough to set something up again.

We moved into our new home at the beginning of May, so naturally I had begun cycling my new tank within the month (you know, priorities) . 40gal FOWLR (for now). I have two occelaris clowns, a coral beauty, and a cuc. I rushed things a little, so while I dodged a bullet with livestock (nobody died), it'll be a while before anything new is added as I'm focused on establishing what I currently have.

Anyway, this community has already been a massive help and I'm looking forward to being on the contributing side in the near future rather than the "PLEASE HELP!!!!!" side.

Hey everyone, new to posting here but not new to reef-keeping... Previously I resided over at nano-reef.com when I was only able to afford to keep smaller reef systems. My career now allows me to spend the money I was never able to spend before so I'm setting up a 120 Gallon! Check out my build thread here!

Hello, longtime reader, first time poster! My name is Garrett, live in Erin,WI. Been keeping freshwater fish most of my life, just turned my 125 into a salt tank in January. Has some lps, soft corals and small fish for now. Also have a 300g freshwater and a 450g w/150g sump I am in the process of setting up. Originally bought the 450 to house a freshwater stingray or 2, but am now leaning toward a fowlr. Decisions,decisions...

Hello all,

My name is Jay and I am a total novice with a 54 gallon corner tank with a sump, LEDs and a wave maker that I am hoping to start up and begin cycling this weekend. I live in the Keys so I am hoping to slowly establish a reef tank with live sand and rock. I am a bit wary of the sandbed though after reading some of the posts on the subject but I'm going to give it a shot. Very glad that a friend turned me on to this site! Thanks to all!

Hello all my name is Anthony,
I currently am running my 1st reef aquarium been at it for about 4 months up until now I thought I could get away with reading the posts of others but now have decided to join in my comments and ask for yours. My tank is 75gal 30 gal sump with refugium chato, skimmer, carbon, bio pellets, and algae scrapper. Next year I am hoping to get a house where I can set up a 500gal tank I have lined up for a nice custom build but first I need to get my tank under control. I'm off to find where I can ask some questions and discuss some solutions.

Hello everyone, I just signed up today.

I an nearing the end of remodeling our house (a two year project) and I told myself when that was finished I was starting a reef tank. So, I am starting my research.

I am thinking about something in the 25 to 50 gal range, but I have no idea really as I said above just starting to read about what will be best. Something within that size range would easily work in my proposed location.

It looks like this is a very active forum and I am glad to be a member of the community and hope to give back one day.

See you in the forums...

Keith
