New Red Sea Max E170

New Red Sea Max E170

Hi all I have rekindled my desire for a tank so I have invested in a Max E 170, VorTech mp40, Deltec sc1455 in sump skimmer and Hailea Chiller, is this a good start?
I would also love to find a reliable aquaculture coral vendor who ships internationally.
Raymond.

You are certainly not a "newbie nuisance" ! We are all here to share, learn, and help one another. About adding corals, how expensive it can be, the key word here is "can". Check out coral frags, they can be quite affordable, and are a fantastic way to add corals to our nano tanks. Some can grow quickly. Here's a prime example of a soft body frag i go this month, it's called a "frogspawn", and here are to other frgs i have in my nano tank.

Howdy folks,
Started with salt tanks back in the late 80's. You learned the basics from books and from your mistakes back then. Under gravel systems were proven and wet/dry systems were the answer to all your water quality problems..
And so it begins anew.

75 Gal tall with base rock and live rock; royal gramma , cleaner shrimp and watchman goby with pistol shrimp and assorted cleaning crew. Tank has been up and running for two+ months and tried and true has proven to still be the solid way to go.

Lighting? ***. The hobby has gone crazy on lighting. I have a 2 bulb T8 fixture that came with the tank. Replaced the bulbs with a blue and a full spectrum. Expect the questions to fly on the lighting , because those little ceramic disks with coral have caught my attention.

huh? sorry it's such a simple reply but i'm kinda confused lol.. sorry!!
No problem. I'm still a relative novice reef keeper, and I don't know many of the corals by their proper names. I can tell you that the "button" corals are supposed to be easy fow newbies to maintain, as long as your tank is finished cycling. They're a hard bodied coral, but they look as if the are covered by brilliant buttons of color. They are filter feeders, and donot require target feeding. Look into those and see if I'm right. I'm certain about one thing, if I'm wrong, someone here will chime in and let me know.

Hi world. Nice to meet you! My name is Jim, living in Mesa Az. I have taken the last 10 years off from the hobby, and feel it is time to get back into it. I have kept many fresh water tanks, mostly devoted to Frontosa. At one time I had a 300, 90, 2-55, and a few 10's and 20's set up around the house. My wife says I can't do that anymore.... I have also kept a 24 gallon cube for about a year and a half as a reef, but took it down in about 2006. That was my last tank until now. I bought a 90 and am going to be setting up my own little slice of the ocean. I will start a build thread soon, and hope you follow along and offer advice!

Hello everyone I am Zeb. I am brand new to marine aquariums. I have had freshwater aquariums for 30 yrs or so. I have a 75 gallon fowlr tank that has been set up for about 5 months. I currently have a fluvial canister and hob filter but have a ruby 36 sump and reef octopus skimmer on the way. I have a coral beauty, a niger trigger (2.5") or so, a pair of clown fish, 3 turbo snails and a couple shrimp.
The niger trigger and the coral beauty were added at the same time. The rest were there. Didn't do my research before buying the trigger. He was a beautiful fish and I wanted him. Got him home and then read some horror stories.
Forgive my long windedness, but I welcome any and all suggestions and appreciate in advance all answers to questions I am sure I will have.
Thxs

Greetings, I'm Mitch, and I am just looking into entering the wonderful world of reef tanks. I'm a SCUBA DM who has an obsession with coral and invertebrates, so unlike many people fish aren't my main interest so much as the other additions to a reef tank. Still trying to figure out how to take the first baby steps into the hobby, especially on a baby budget.

Let's start with your tank size, do you want a nano tank? Or would you like something bigger, and start buying your equipment a piece or two at a time? Frankly, I'm into nano tanks. They fit into your home more readily, and you can set them up to showcase specfic corals, and or inverts.

I have had freshwater tanks all my life, so I decided to start a saltwater tank. I would like to start a build thread at some point. Also I'm sure I'll need help with stocking as well as useful pointers. I'm start a 280 gal tank 72"x24x36 acrylic Swimming tank, with some anemones and clowns if possible.

You're starting with a impressive size tank, but then i have a nano tank(40 gal). I too started with fresh water, all the way back to middle school, with fancy tail guppies, and yes, I ended up being a supplier to the lfs. At least until mom put her foot down. 😎 I'm looking forward to following your tank building project.
