New to RC and starting a new setup

New to RC and starting a new setup

Hi all,

I've been running a 26 bow face as a mixed reef tank for a couple years. Initially I had a tough time chasing water perimeters, but have gotten that under control. No sump or Refugium, just a cascading hang on filter system and a nano protein skimmer. No problem Keeping small soft bodied corals growing but have had a lot of bottom fish killed in recent weeks. No sign of crabs...

I've elected to setup a new tank. Aqueon 54 gallon corner setup, pre drilled. It will have an eshopps nano Refugium, eshopps x-120 skimmer and Kessil AP700 LED light assembly. The plan is to start with all new live sand, base with life rock and transfer the large rocks with corals after being dipped. This will be my first Refugium setup, plan to use 3"-4" live sand plus live rock with tisbie pods and some algae.

Having never setup a Refugium before, are there any suggestions or methods you guys can offer to aid in better success?

New to the group and new 37 gallon marine/reef tank

Hello Reef Central my name is Matt, I have a 37 gallon tall, that I set up last week. I had salt water about 20 years ago with fish only (Tangs, Angels, Bufferflys). I've just got back into it 20 years later, this is the first time I've had live rock. Currently in my 37 I have 2 fiji premium live rock and waiting for the tank to seed so I can start with some clown fish and maybe some corals :). Thank you for allowing me into your group I'm looking forward to getting back into a marine aquarium. And yes I've been out of it for so long I can be called a beginner :).

Hello everyone. New to the blog. Have plenty of Q,s. If anyone has the time. Not all that new to the hobby. It I've mostly been a softy/Fowlr guy. Starting to move into lps and hopefully sps given some time time. But having trouble getting my lps to grow much at this point. Not sure how I go about posting Q,s if it should be in here or should I go to a certain form or what.

Hi

Hi

I go by skittlz (skittles) but my name is Sean, ive been doing saltwater tanks for about 6 years and still learn new things every day normally in the form of I touched it so it died... my mistakes usually cost me money which makes me very gun shy now a days. i went from a nano, to a 30 gal bio cube to eventually 2x 30 gal bios and a 29 bio as well then jumped into combining all three into a 65 gal w/ a 20 eshopps sump w/ refugium. its great to be on the forum finally, and i will try to follow all the guidelines. If I ever stray from them, it is not intentional. Cheers!

I'm looking for advice on settings for my Ai prime light. I have a 60gal cube (2ft square). I Ai prime light. Reef tank with 5 fish a few anemones (started with 1, it split and have had 4 for over 1 year) I've been getting more algae growth lately. Tank has been up over 3 years, but I cannot get my ph to stay put. Almost need to add daily. Also cannot get calcium to reccomend level. Can anyone assist?

Welcome. I have a similar setup as the first tank you listed. Love those lights.

Just keep swimming...

I'm brand new to the hobby. A bit of Google searching brought me here. It seems like you guys really know your stuff; I'm excited to learn how to keep my fishes and corals alive and thriving!

Greetings. My name is Dave. Iambrand new to reef tanks but have been keeping freshwater fish for many years. I still have my 125 gallon Discus tank going and plan to keep it. The new reef tank is going to be a 75 gallon that I did have set up as a tank for smaller freshwater fish but decided...with the encouragement of our great local fish store...to change it over to saltwater and a reef tank. I will probably ask a lot of dumb questons. Please bare with me! Thanks for adding me to the group!

Newbie Fish Keeper

Good afternoon. My husband and I have kept our tanks for just about a year now. Was looking through the forums for answers on some tank issues and thought that I should just join in case I needed to ask my own questions. :)

Hey guys, I've been lurking for a looooooong time. I worked in a few LFSs in college, and fell in love with the hobby. A relocation in 1999 forced me dismantle my 75g reef. I left Charleston, SC and spent the following 10 years traveling for work. I ended up in Columbia, SC, and added a wife and three kids to my resume. Since 2013, I've been slowly and methodically acquiring gear for my return-to-reefing-triumph-build. Instead of building my own sump this time, I did the father-of-three-young-kids thing and drove over to Aquarium Specialty and bought one from them. I plumbed it this past weekend. My RODI water station is now fully operational in the garage... Brutes are filled to the rim. Will I add water this week? It's possible.

THE AMMONIA'S SPIKING!!!

Im about 1 week more experienced with reefing than I am with posting on a forum. But I've been researching for a couple months and so much good information has come from this site I figured I'd join in and see if I can figure it out.

I've got a 65g DT with 24g sump/refugium. Added water and 'starter cycle' 8 days ago but have seen nothing at all. Added a cold shrimp today, lol. I am aiming for a mixed coral and fish reef display. Lots of gobies and small fish. I logged on to start posting some questions. I know they've been asked, but I can't figure out the specific word combo to find them.

Greetings people!

I have yet to buy anything but I'm planning to take the plunge into this hobby. I plan to get into a nano size tank to start me off but I'll be lurking for all my answers.

Thanks!

Hey everyone. I am brand new to the hobby. I am already starting to get addicted. I bought a Coralife LED biocube 32. I also bought a Sicce Nano 2000 for more flow. I am looking to do a reef tank in it. Any help or suggestions are always welcomed. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hello all,

Just introducing myself as I am new to saltwater. I've recently purchased a 32 gallon Starfire Aquatics setup complete with sump, reef octopus skimmer, heater, pumps, yubao wavemaker and stand. Will lilkely build my own lights (as i did recently for my 40g freshwater) My LFS told me to get onto this forum for advice and direction.

Cheers,

Hi welcome to the Forum. I'm glad to know LFS like that exist, that's the best piece of advice anyone can give.
