If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

I just started this addicting hobby this last summer... I've been scuba diving for over 35 years, became an instructor and always wanted my own little piece of the reef, but raising a family took all my time and $$$. Now my oldest is on his own, and I have another on scholarship away at college and so my wife said, you need something to do, why not the fish tank you always wanted...

So I went out and bought a Red Sea Max... and after a few months I made it to here...

But the bug bit hard and I found out about the forums... so I wanted more...

I'm not done yet I added a frag tank...

Who knows where I'll go with this but I'm enjoying learning and tinkering and DIY projects.

Hello everyone, currently on deployment and have been using the off time to plan for an ambitious aquarium project with my girlfriend when I get back home. Been looking through the forums for months now and after lots of sketch-up time and calculations I think I am almost ready to unveil my build for criticism and suggestions. Look forward to the wealth of knowledge contained here. Thanks in Advance :)

New to saltwater

Hey all! I've been reading on here for a while, and have finally started by 100 gallon reef build. Actually it's going to be basically a FOWLR tank, with a few beginner corals. I am doing as much DIY as I can! I have started a build thread here http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1958904
My stock list includes:
a few (probably 3) Blue Green Reef Chromis
Blue Tang
Picasso Trigger Fish
2 False Percula Clowns
Coral Beauty Angel
Spotted Mandarin Fish
and maybe a Volitan Lion Fish (my daughter really wants this one!)
I appriciate feedback on my stock list as well as my build (as it progresses!)

Hey everyone New to Reef Tanks

Looking forward to some advice on reef keeping.

We have mostly fish only tank, 120 gallons, 5' long for about two years now. 2x150 metal halide with 9 blue led and 9 white led 4' long from our original 4' 75 gal tank that is now our sump. 100 plus pounds live rock. Some of it is home made. Reef Octopus 150 skimmer.
2 Eng Gobby 10 to 12 inches long, Maroon clown, 2 blue green Chromis, Sail Fin Tang, Yellow Wrasse, PJ Cardinal, sand sifting star, various snails, 2 black and white clowns separated to refug area. We want to start a reef tank so looking for advice, will post in appropriate area.

Hello all

Hello all

Hello my name is Gary. I live in SW Florida. I am very new to salt water systems. I have had many freshwater setups throughout my life but have always wanted to give a salt water tank a try. There is so much more color and activity in a salt water tank. My current system is a 55 gal reef tank. The lighting is as follows: 2-PC daylight bulbs and 2-PC Actinic bulbs. The filtration leaves something to be desired but it is a hang on the back type. The whole system was given to me free of charge including some LR and 3 clowns. I have since added some corals and a couple fish. We recently purchased a complete used 110 gallon setup. I am in the process of re-staining the cabinet and making a sump with refugium. I will be creating a thread showing my progress. The link below is to pictures of my current 55 gallon tank;
Thanks all for your knowledge and one day I hope to be able to contribute.

New to RC and salt water aquariums

hi all. just wanted to introduce myself. I am new to reef central and am going to take the dive into salt water aquariums.

I have always had a love for the ocean (surfing and fishing) and what better hobby to add than salt water aquariums. I know there is a wealth of knowledge here and cant wait to start!

Hello RC! Name is Kenny and I have had a freshwater tank for about two years. We finally decided to pull the plug on it and upgrade to a SW. I have the tank set up now and am going ot start purchasing the equipment. I have been researching practically every day for the last two months but I know I have a lot of unanswered questions.

Oh, its a 70g bow front.

Hello, back in the hobby after a 4 year break, setting up a 90g w/55gal sump, will be mixed reef. Need to get lighting, skimmer etc, have filled tank(water/sand) and am looking for the rest of the parts now. I have an SC90 overflow and am shopping for a return pump around 1000g(I guess) due to 5ft lift from sump to tank. Thinking MH or LED for lights still researching those threads. Any suggestions, directions or help would be ap.

Have you checked out Liverock.com They are in florida and and prefer to fly rock and sand to minimize the stress. We ordered our from there but the weather is not cooperating and he hasn't shipped it yet. Good luck.

Hello Everyone, a little help!

Hello Everyone, a little help!

Hi,
I'm a total noob to salt water and reefs, ut have had a 100g fresh for years. Me and my wife did a lot of research and reading which brought us here. I've read alot of helpful threads and found answers to questions i had. This is a great site and lots of great knowledge here for the picking. Thanks to all of you members and especially to the Staff at RC for a job well done.

Our 26g bow is setup and waiting on our LR and LS from liverock.com in Fl. Weather has not permitted shippment yet. The tank has a coralife 65 skimmer and one powerhead. Is this enough flow? The other question is the skimmer is producing micro bubbles and i have adjusted over the last several days to no avail. I also triple checked the setup by the instructions and all is correct. Any suggestions?

Ahoy mateys. Brand spanking new to this world and loving it so far, but finding myself in over my head. Without going into the details of why, I have an 85gal tank, ~50lb LS, ~80lb LR, Remora AquaC Protein Skimmer, Sump (dunno actual size, but advertised as big enough for a 125gal), Nova Extreme T5 8x54 (single reflector), and some critters (4 blue damsels, royal gramma, scooter blenny, sand star, 5 hermits, 5 snails, and a lonely peppermint shrimp whose 4 buddies passed away after diligently eating up the aptasia that the tank came with), and a ricordia, some other red mushroom thing, and a frag of zoos. My apologies for the newb speak, one day I'll learn the proper jargon.

So yea, I got all that and NO EXPERIENCE.

This is gonna be fun.
