I am not new to reefing been in it for about 6 years and keeping tanks for most my life fresh or reptile......


Just recently got back into after a year and a half break
set-up my nano 12g last month and the current project is my 180g
the pic is from last week and is now filled and cycling.

Waiting for my JBJ 28 gal nano cube LED to become stable so I can put something in it be sides salt water, rock and sand. I put a couple of small pieces of raw shrimp in about 2 weeks ago and that seems to be helping get the cycle cycling. I ordered a tunze skimmer(with a skinny cup) and a EcoTech Marine MP10 Vortech Propeller Pump w/ Wireless EcoSMART Driver from Marine Depot.

UPS misdelivered these items TWICE!! They said they were sorry.

Hey everyone my name is Danny and I am currently a "full time college student" as well as an employee of the great company known as Best Buy. I'm from the east but have just moved out to the South West for school and I'm liking it so far.

I'm not knew to the hobby of having an aquarium since I grew up with a fresh water 55 Gallon tank until around the age of 17. Now that we have moved to a new home my dad and I are interested in setting up a new tank and he says if I handle most of the work for it we can do a salt water one. He had a salt water tank when he was around my age so he's a little weary on starting another as he found it to be too much work. I have convinced him that it has become so much easier 50 years later he said we can give it ago so I'm here to learn everything (that I possibly can) about starting and maintaining a fresh water tank.

Greetings, all.

I'm interested in reefing - bought a tank and a bunch of gear and am starting to think about actually putting water in the system now...

I've got a 46g bowfront with a 10g that I was planning to use for a sump, but I think I'm going to try to shovel a 20g into the bottom of the stand after some of the reading I've been doing.

I still need to get some power heads for the display tank, and I've been reading a lot of positive comments about Tunez nanostreams. I was looking at maybe a couple of these 6055's with a controller for some back & forth motion in the tank. Any suggestions? I'm certainly open to lower cost options.

Thanks for any advice, and I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you.

Like to say Hi to all, My name is Keith, but have been called tango for the last 15+ years because of the military. I've been into saltwater for the last 4 years with my first tank being a 24G Nano tank which I've upgraded to the 34G Solana by current-usa with a 150W Sunpod on top of it. Well can I say I am one of those people that never leave something alone. I just purchased a Marineland 110G(48x18x30) Corner-Flo Tank. This tank is one of two that were a prop from the new X-Men movie set that is being film currently in coastal GA. Wow this tank is a movie star! Got a real good deal on the tank. Now taking a big leap into setting this new tank up and am looking to all the experience here to help me along. Let me say Thanks upfront.

I want to thank all the members on here that are so helpful to all us new people. Without these forums we would be lost and would only have our LFS to go to for help. While I am thankful for my LFS it is great to get a second opinion from you all.

Hey everyone. Been kind of browsing for a few months and thought it was about time I introduce myself. I started my first saltwater tank last April. A 40long that I had planned on keeping fish only. That planned changed when I started seeing local reef tanks. A lighting upgrade and few hundred dollars later I had a reef tank of my own. Its been pretty uneventful, no real issues. A couple losses in the beginning, but that was expected. Now I am hooked and need more room. So I just bought a 120rr, and I am working on getting all the other equipment I am going to need. Hopefully this summer I will have it all up and running. Can't wait to have what I hope will be a very nice reef tank.

Hey everyone! Just joined the forum today. My name is Dean and I'm from the Middle Georgia area and currently starting my first saltwater system. I just started a thread in the New Hobbyist section today titled "55 gallon build". Please stop by and take a look. I'm in the process of acquiring all my equipment as well as setting up my sump/fuge. Still have loads of work to do such as building a stand, drilling the 55, doing the plumbing and so forth. Would love to have some of the experienced members offer advice and guidance. I have researched the hobby for a couple years now and finally took the plunge. Hello RC, my name is Marc and I am new to the hobby of saltwater and reef tanks. I live in Connecticut and spent the last 3 years keeping a 90 gallon African Cichlid tank. I decided to switch over to saltwater and currently am cycling and seeding rock. I have a 90g tank, built in overflow, 30 gallon sump, bubble magus 6a protien skimmer, and a deepblue extreme light. Been cycling for about 2 weeks with about 50lbs of live rock and 100lbs of dead, and am starting to see the ammonia levels go down now. I used all RO/DI water. I look foreward to learning from this community as well as contributing whatever i can.

Hey everybody, I am new to everything tank related... My family had a 55 gallon FW tank a few years ago before we moved up near Atlanta, and we had a 120 gallon SW tank that was never completely set up. We had to get rid of both tanks when we moved, but plan on trying to start up a large SW tank when we move again in a year or so.

Just thought I would try to hang out here some to research and learn what I can so that we will be better prepared when the time comes to get started.

I wanted to drop in and say hello to everyone. I'm new to the saltwater hobby. I have had
freshwater tanks for over 30 years. Below is a picture of my live rock in my 110 gallon tank.
My tank has finally cycled and I'm ready to slowly introduce a couple of fish shortly. I'm
going to wait to add any coral until I get the proper lighting. I currently only have the Coralife
Power Compacts. I'm looking to get the Orphek PR-156 Reef Aquarium LED lights. I'm still
researching the LED's vs Halides.

I am new to saltwater aquariums. I grew up with freshwater aquariums but never salt. We recently visited Hawaii and I had the opportunity to dive and fell in love with the saltwater fish and its beauty. My gave me a 30 gallon tank with stand and canopy. I bought sand, live rock and a few damsels and let it cycle. Its been 8 weeks and we are cycled. No ammonia, or nitrites. I bought lights for corals and am just really trying to soak up some knowledge. I am a nurse, understand chemistry well so I am hoping for a good happy home for my fish. I would like a much larger tank, and am sure I will get one but I want to learn exactly what I need to know about equip so I can buy the right size.
This seems to be a great site.
