If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi, I'm new, sorta. Been a member sine Sept 10, can't view the for sale threads and need 50 posts to do so. I currently run a 34g Solana mixed reef with LED lighting. I'm looking to upgrade to a rimless long/shallow tank with a focus on LPS and a minor amount of SPS.

Hello RC I'm from new London Connecticut I am 22 years old and a newbie. So far so good thanks to all of the information I found here on RC and on YouTube. I am working on a reef tank it is my first saltwater tank. If u have any questions please message me I have no saltwater buddies right now and would be glad to meet some...

Hello, I've had reef tanks for over 15 years. I just set up a new 75 gallon so I could raise sea horses again. I had a pair of mustangs and a pair of Sunbursts from Ocean Riders in Hawaii. They are a great place to purchase anything, and they have great customer service. I will keep some "nice" corals, a clown, mandarin, and a few reef chromis. This group works well with sea horses, since you can feed the group first, and then hand feed the horses. I have to wait a couple more weeks before I get the horses, I want to make sure the tank is ready..

Hello fellas, My name is Jose, I live in the high desert Ca and I recently got involved in the hobby. I purchased a fowlr tank complete to the point where I actually brought back the tank water with me. Anyways hello and it's a great site.

Hi all,

My name is Jim and I'm fairly new to saltwater and no experience in reefs (yet).

I have a 125 that was a steal for a xmas gift for the kids (and me!) and realized that just starts the obsession.

The wife thinks the 125 takes up too much space in our family room and seems to think it would look better in the wall taking up a closet behind it. I'm not one to argue with the wife, so out comes the sledge and reciprocating saw. :)

Oh, and a 220 wouldn't even be noticeably different after hiding the back of it, right?

Hi everyone...I'm Christine (Mrs. Gixxerman). My husband (Tim Gixerman) signed up a few weeks ago, and I figured that I would probably be asking just as many questions as he does. We are old hats to aquariums, having them for going on 11 years, but have done only freshwater, with mostly cichlids. I've been wanting a salt water aquarium for a long time now, and after the last of my cichlids passed away, I figured if we were going to go for it, now was the time. We love our tank...and it's a slow work in progress now for a little over a month. But great fun to watch it grow. We have a 75 gallon tank sea clone, 150 protein skimmer, cascade 1000 canister filter, aqua clear 110 filter, and a koralia power head, live rock, and base rock. We are slowly adding a cleanup crew, and live fish. We are waiting for the rock wall to be finished before slowly adding coral in another 2 or 3 months. Our fish store recommended this site to us, and we've been loving all of the great information we've been getting from it. Kudos!

New to the reef!

New to the reef!

Hi! my name is Kenny, I decided to join your community once I decided to take the plunge into SW. I have kept various freshwater tanks over the years, a few monstrosities also. When I was a kid I used to keep a ten gallon with various danios and what not, but had to get out of the hobby because I moved alot. Within the last two years I started back up with a 20gal convict cichlid tank, and a 60gal low end marine/high end brackish setup. Both have been running smoothly since and I have recently acquired a new SW setup.

It's a 125gallon with a 60 gallon sump, Drilled overflow at each corner , wet/dry filter, skimmer, 1500gph alpine pump, and two 36" T5 fixtures. I am really interested in going Low-Light/non-photosynthetic coral route with it because they have really caught my eye. I have done quite a bit of research but as you know, theres a TON of info out there so I plan on doing much more before I even start the tank, I welcome any input that may help me out!

Hi,

Well, I havn't even made a post yet and this forum has already answered my first question: how to quiet my overflow boxes. Several people made mention of the Durso standpipe. I ran to HD this afternoon and now my tank is running quietly - as far as the overflows go, anyhow. I still want to quiet my pump a bit, if possible.

I tried a fish only marine tank 30 years ago and that didn't work so well. A couple of years ago after I took my family to Hawaii - and after a separating couple up the street threw out a perfectly good 45 gallon aquarium setup - I decided to return to the hobby. I now have a yellow tang, a blue surgeonfish, a 3-spot damsel, a clownfish, a mated pair of clowns that lay eggs pretty much every two to three weeks, and various invertebrates. A few months ago I had an opportunity to purchase a *very* *nice* 135 gallon system w/two rear corner overflow boxes for next to nothing because the owner just wanted it out of his house. Yes, that was three months ago.

{Long story about a tank-moving accident and subsequent two month repair deleted}

So now I am running fresh water through the system to make sure it isn't leaking anywhere, and trying to simplify the plumbing as much as possible.

Will be keeping a close eye here! :-)

Thanks,

Jon

Hello Forums....

Hello Forums....

Hello folks, I'm Ryan, Not new to fish, however pretty new to salt.
I've had freshwater tanks from 10 gal to 200 gal for the last 20 years.

My buddy convinced me I needed to go salt. So here I am.

My current setup that is "just" starting is a 125 gal wide, with a 55 gal sump
among the other goodies for pumps, wavemakers etc. (Which I don't even have going yet) ...
No reef, for fish, nada..
But I thought I would register here and see what you all have.. Nice forum BTW very informative..

Here is a Pic of the tank in the "nearly" finished wall.

We are hoping to get it plumbed and ready to cycle in the next few days, I'll upload more as it comes.

Thanks
Ry

Hello! My name is John and I've been keeping fish for about 35 years. Currently I have 2 freshwater systems and am setting up a 300 gallon SA system.

You're probably wondering why I'm here on reef central. Well, no disrespect to my fellow freshwater keepers , but you guys are lightyears ahead in sump design and knowledge. I've joined here mostly to research and learn so I get my sump design right the first time. Lots of amazing systems on here.

On a side note, I have kept several saltwater systems in the past. A 20,55 and a 180.

Thanks in advance for all the knowledge!

Hi everyone, my name is Ed and I am from Toronto Canada. I have been on and off on reef for 16 years. The last time I was off since 2007. I had a 180 mixed coral tank but now I am going to rebuild it. The tech has been change a lot since I last done my tank. I am looking in to more cleaning solution than what I had. Possibly some LED, and Wave box. I am slowly but truly cleaning up the left over of my 180. I hope to get this tank setup by Summer. Look forward to get advise from here.
