If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hello, My name is Jeff Jenkins. I live in Kentucky. I do not have a tank yet. That is why I am here to learn. I had a fresh water tank as a kid. Now in my 40's I have found a love for the ocean. I can't get to the ocean enough so I want to bring it to my home. I am wanting to do a reef tank in the 90 gallon range. Take Care.

new to saltwater aquariums

Hi my name is peter i just recently bought a very high end take for a fraction of the cost. Ive always had freah water and this is my first tim doing a saltwater setup.
I had to fill the aquarium up kind of fast due to the live rock and i managed to get the protien skimmer working...oh where should the water line be on the neck of the skimmer (before you introduce the air)
Other than that i have a co2 system a water pump that supposibly refills the tank and a system called korallin?????? Im totally clueless to these systems but ive managed to keep live fish and one coral, please if anybody has any info on this i would be greatfull because once in a while i loos a fish i checked my peramerters and they are always good.

Hello all,

Just joined up today. I've been keeping marine aquariums for close to 7 years now. First started off with a small 10g tank when I was 14. I'd had freshwater tanks since I was 8, and I had always found marine aquariums fascinating. First tank was done with a few pieces of live rock and tap water; luckily enough our water was pretty clean, so I didn't have too much algae to deal with thankfully. Rather than going the usual route with fish and corals, I set up the tank for fish and various macroalgaes. Had a beautiful and very large piece of Halymenia floresia as my centerpiece, and had Gracilaria in the background with branching Codium taylorii on the rocks. Unfortunately I had a massive die-off during a winter power failure, so the tank was scrapped and I didn't start again for another year.

Currently I have 3 tanks going. Another 10g is my main tank, with maybe 20 different species of algae in it and a few smaller anemones. 2nd tank is my 5g "pestarium." I set it up to culture various "pests" like cyanobacteria, aiptasia anemones, and various algae and worms for school. Looks like crap but the specimens are great to have for school. 3rd tank is currently my oldest standing one, a tiny 1.5 gallon hex that I use to breed Pseudocorynactis anemones. The oldest one in there is nearly three inches across now. :)

Hi Everyone! My name is Michelle from Sunny San Diego, CA. I just started my first 55g reef tank about 6 weeks ago. So far its been a blast learning about different corals and beautiful looking fishes. I just bought my first two clown fishes today which I named Kit & Kat. Have a wonderful day everyone!

Hello everyone Im dillon from Good ol kentucky im somewhat experienced with freshwater, and am new to saltwater so any advice is great. my new setup is 2 weeks old with 4 damsels and a small piece of live rock, ive heard people who prefer fish cycling and some who prefer with only live rock, im running a standard hang on the back filter 2 t8 lights 18 inch and am in the process of fabricating my own skimmer... once again i am begging for advice right now, anything i need or should be expecting to purchase in the future.

Newbie with a 450 and some questions

Hello from Miami ! So, like everything else I do in life, I decided to go over board. I got this 80x37x36 beast in my living room. Empty, for now. I'm just staring at it thinking what did I get myself into. Anyways, seemingly not a bad craigslist purchase. Only the glass so far (550.00). I slapped together some 4x6's and some ply and I have a lower stand. So, bow, I'm trying to clean this thing. And there's a milky cloudy film (inside and outside on the glass)in some areas , of course the front and middle, that is impossible to get off. I tried CLR, vinegar, wetsanding, razor blades and short of shooting it with a .45, I cannot for the life of me get it off. Any suggestions... Planning FOWLR aggressive. No soft corals or anything. So I guess , lighting and filtration ideas would be cool too. Thanks !

Hi ReefCentral, I am Sander from Idaho. I am yet another person who has kept freshwater tanks in the past, but has finally taken the plunge into the saltwater hobby.

Over the past few years I've been reading all I can on saltwater species, and their environments. This reading has included a fair bit of lurking reefcentral too of course. About 8 months ago I finally started my first saltwater tank. My goal is a peaceful mixed reef.

I look forward to continuing to learn (and hopefully contribute as much as I am able) in these great forums.

Hello All!

Hello All!

Hello, Danio here, I am 25 and live in beautiful Western Colorado. I currently am building wireless high speed broadband network and doing custom electronics. I am a total newby to the saltwater game but I have fallen in love and have a great mentor to keep me from getting ahead of myself. So here I am patiently waiting for my tank to cycle and soaking up as much info as possible.

Hello my Name is Nick.

New to the hobby. Decided I like the look of reefs way more than Freshwater so im going o take the plunge and get one going, probably start with a FOWLR under some advice I was given.

Have my planned 80g glass tank that I want to do this in, but... arg! cant decide weather I want to go for a 150g acrylic custom made tank.. (+sump).

Suggestions, advice? As long as I can get at least one clown and one tang, il be happy.

:Cheers
