If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

hey RC, my names Graham, as my username implies. Im new to the hobby, gettin started on my tank. I Currently have a 90 gallon Oceanic and a 55 gallon ( that i will be using as my sump/refugium ) Im in the process of building my stand and aquiring the rest of my equipment. I have a Marineland LED light strip, koralia evolution 1050 powerhead and marineland 4500 submersible pump. Still shopping for a protein skimmer. Im also still in the stage of learning and planning but hope to have the tank going by this summer. ( if my wallet will permit ) One question i have is will that Marineland light strip be strong enough to sustain a full-blown reef system? 10,000K white, 460nm actinic blues. 2610 lumens.

Hi all,
I'm new here of course. Just got my 55g saltwater tank "setup" and by setup I mean that it has water in it. I'm looking forward to slowly building my tank and have been learning a lot from these forums.

Hey all new to the board, I just started a sw tank Fri and am eager for info. I started a Biocube 14 and have live rock, live sand and aged water in it. Where the bioballs were supposed to be I was told to put rubble in it so I did. I am looking for any and all info and hope to find a club in the St. Louis area. I have been interested in starting a reef tank for a long time so I finally took the plunge.... after 50 years HA! Anyways looking forward to reading and learning... check back with you all later... Todd

New to Reef Central

Hey guys, new to Reef Central but not new to the hobby. Experience in FOWLR tanks for 5 years or so. Looking forward to getting to know a lot of you and hopefully gather some important information as I venture in to reefing. Best of luck to everyone!

Hi

Hi

whats up fish peeps. im matt and im an 18yr old senior in high school. im extremely new to fish. Not even any experience in freshwater. but im very smart(atleast i say lol) so i hink i can pick up this saltwater thing pretty quick with ALOT of google, and alot of reefcentral. my girlfriend was the one to get me started in this and now we own 14g biocube a month later. but i think alot of the success(so far) is just because the use of the biocube. i looked at it and easily started to set it up. 3 weeks and 1 day later, we have 6-7lbs of LS and 8lbs LR. and a few little critters. that are doing well in my opinion. i just wanted to say that im excited to be in this hobby!

Hi everybody..

Hi everybody..

Hi, my name is Rachael. I live in the Sacramento area w/ my husband, Tim. We've got a fairly new-to-us 180 gallon reef going (bought a 5 year mature system). It's my & my husband's first BIG tank. we kept freshwater for years & years, then tried saltwater for awhile about 10 years ago. We're now getting back into it & boy have things changed!
I also have a 28g Nanocube that was a full reef, but after a horrible crash is currently a FOWLR with some never ending issues. First aiptasia...now cyano. *sigh* We're working on it, though!
I look forward to making friends, making trades, and learning the more "technical" aspects of the hobby.

Well.. I've been reading around here for several months already and I figured it was time for me to actually POST something. I've been sort of a off and on fish keeper in the past. I had a cold water tank through most of high school, and picked up a betta about 5 months ago. Within a few short weeks that guy had upgraded tanks 3 times from a 1 gallon bowl to a 3.5g acrylic tank with led lighting. That's all it took to get me bitten by the bug and I started researching what it would take to run a saltwater setup. At first I was thinking about doing a FOWLR but the attraction to coral was just too much. But, Enough about me. On to my tank.

I started up my tank only a little over a month ago but I was lucky to be able to pull my Live Rock out of an established tank and get it into my tank within an hour so my cycle was done in only about 3-5 days. I really lucked out and there is a great Reef Society in my area that does monthly meetings and almost all of the corals that I've picked up have come from them. I really recommend finding a group in your area and get talking with them. It's amazing what you can learn from local people "this place is good, this place is bad, he has good stuff but watch out for flatworms" etc.
