New reef tank owner - 35 gallon, dome front

New reef tank owner - 35 gallon, dome front

Hello all -

I'm a new reef tank owner. A friend of the family was moving and getting rid of their tank - and gave it to me. I had a guy I know from a local pet store set it up - he said there was over $1000 worth of equipment so it was a huge score on that...

Since that time - I have about 20-25 (g/t) of live rock...

2 Clow Fish, 1 Red Firefish (who hides most of the time in a cave at the BACK of the tank), and a snad sifter type Goby (who also hides but in a cave in FRONT of the tank)

The Goby I am going to either get rid of as it will out grow the tank OR just get a new tank...

I also have a Blue Knuckled Hermit Crab, 1 Cleaner Shrimp, and a cleanup crew of 20 hermit/snails...

I have about 20 different types of corals and stuff in there - some as plugs - nothing very big as of yet. Just waiting for it to start spreading around the rocks as it grows...

I have also noticed a few things that seem to have hitchhiked in:

** Some hard tubes on the top of a rock with a bright red, feathery fan that seems to dart back into the tube when something comes close. I have 2 of them...

** I have what I have determined to be a small Bristle Worm living in a small cave - in front of the tank. I have seen it crawl out a few times - probably about 6 centimeters in length - but stays right there at the mouth of the cave...

I also have a rock we labeled the "Rock of Life" ... On the inner cavaities of this rock - there are what have determined to be some *anemones*... At the moment - they aren't very big. Maybe about a half size bigger than when I first saw them a few months ago. But so far - I have been unable to find a picture of them on Google Image search, and I have seen all the posts on the "aiptasia" - but they do NOT look like any of that type. The pet store guy actually took a close look and said they were Strawberry Anemones. But when I look at them - and then look at what's in my tank - I don't see the resemblence... Maybe they're too small yet... Here is the description:

Translucent with what looks like a tube - ending in a ring - and then small tentacles around the ring with a bubble or sphere at the end of each tentacle... They actually look really cool when fully active - but that's rare - usually I see them about half open or extended... I did get a very closeup picture of them - will upload later...

The other one I see on the outside of the rock - seems to have an orange base but same translucent characteristics...

I'll add my photos soon of my tank...

My name is Lenny, Been a memeber here since 2001 but have taking some time off from SW tanks. I live in the middle of nowhere Indiana lol. I have had all types of tanks for the past 20+years . Finally decided to get a SW tank going again so I tore down my 55g African tank and do a small reef tank. This time its all the wife's fault .She said "lets get a sw tank going again" Who am I to argue with that. I love doing DIY things to tanks cause I'm cheap LOL.
Sorry no pics yet of the tank, it's still not set up the way I want it

Hey. my name is Troy and although I have a bit of experience with FW planted tanks I have no experience with SW tanks. Due to space limitations, I'm going to get my feet wet with a nano. I know its stupid and crazy and stupid but what the hey! I have money to burn (NOT!) and nowhere to put another tank.

New to hobby, about 6 months into salt water. Let me introduce myself for the first time,
after receiving invaluable advice in this forum . Saalty 1 is my handle from chicago. I'm currently began cycling my 125gallon, 26 gallon sump and 10 gallon fuge. Want to create a nice community tank, I've drilled the tank for my overflow, using a pump from ATB rated @ 1800gph and a diablo protein skimmer about 100 lbs of Fiji rock. It's been a great outlet for me and expensive but will be, when livestock is introduced very satisfying

Hi all, I feel like I've been a part of RC for a while now since I've been spending hours every day reading and researching reefs for the past 8 months. Back in July I decided to turn my 125 fowlr into a reef, that's when my wife said her and the kids lost me. I guess you guys would call it the reef bug.
Hope to share with you soon,
:fun4:

Hello, my name is Scott. I've been keeping freshwater tanks for almost two years now. I recently got a 50g tank for an awesome deal. After much debating over what kind of tank to do, a friend convinced me to jump to salt.

I'm documenting everything I do from the very beginning on my blog, which I would love for you guys to check out and provide feedback / give advice

Still new

Still new

Hello everyone! Started in freshwater in 2003 before making the move to salt in 2005 with a pretty successfull 55 gal. Pretty sure I did most things wrong but very hooked! Had to suspend the hobby for a few years but back now after falling into a 150g. 8 months ago. Sump with overflow (not pre-drilled), refugium that is not quite cooperating yet, but working on it. Pretty basic comm. tank right now. 2 Tom. clowns, 2 One Spot Fox Faces, 3 Damsels, Red Banded Coral Shrimp and a Lawnmower Blennie. Assorted snails and crabs. Not really sure what to add next. So far still FOWLER but would love to move to a reef when I can manage proper lighting.
Anyway, nice to be here!
