Hello to all. Introducing myself here. I've been doing a little research on saltwater & always wanted one so I'm about to start a fish only tank with some rock. I have a 55g 40 LBS live Arg. Sand a marineland 400 filter & another filter I dont remember the brand name but its 30-60g. Also have a 50lbs bag of instant ocean salt, & a heater. I'm kind of stuck & not sure where to start off but I'm looking at sk8r's post on the fastest way to cycle a tank.

I am obviously new to RC and wanted to introduce myself.
I am also new to the SW hobby, purchased a 12 gallon AIO tank on craigslist a few months ago and am already upgrading to a 50. The 12G was already established and am starting with a new 50 G cube so it feels as if I am starting all over needing to learn about the cycle and all.

How's it going people? I'm 29 tomorrow and new to the site! I've been into saltwater tanks for quite some time now. My first set-up was fish only, due to lack of funds and knowledge to the reef side of things. Anyways, that 30 Gal Hex... did not last but more then a couple years. I just recently got back it the game, December of "10". My Wife bought me 46gal Bow front aquarium, untill just two months ago I had a yellow tang, a few damsels and a lion. Turned them into the LFS for credit, and now going completely reef! Within the last month, I've added the appropriate amount of sand bed, New T5 HO lighting setup, skimmer, and awaiting the sump build. I have just added a few frags, all my pictures are viewable through my instagram at the moment @ekloss.

Fredy from KC I have a 75 gallon that has been a fish with a few polyps tank no live rock 50 pounds crushed coral and under gravel filter, HOB filter and several power heads 48" t 12 x 2 light had a yellow tang for years lost a year ago now only have two clowns that are 6+ years old maybe as old as 10 I know that is longer then they say they will live. In the last year I have up graded and plan to keep some of the harder saltwater. I now have same tank 40 lbs live rock same under gravel with crushed coral 48" t5 x 4 with moon LED lights on timers, 10 gallon sump and 10 gal refugium all under tank w/ protein skimmer and turf scrubber 7" sock filter and plan on a wave maker. Overflow and return pump 800 GPh or 500 GPH actual w/head and I purchased water testing kits, 2 Part pH/Alkalinity and Calcium that I have not needed as of now. I purchased the contents of an old saltwater tank you could not see the rock for the green I have everything cleaned up and fish from this tank are breathing a lot slower hope to put the 60 lbs live rock in my tank and give away fish. Any ideas on what to do or not do with live rock that was in a tank the PH had to be very low and no maintenance for a long tine. I have added new water very slow for the last few weeks in an old 55 gal tank and brushing rocks a little at a time. :beer:

hi my name is carlos and im from east hartford i been i this addiction for 2 years im new to reefcentral i started with a 55gal aggressive fish then could not help my self so i bought a 125gal of cragslist built my own stand for it so it stands 4 feet high tank is at the foot of my bed tank ended up splitting on me what a nightmare had put ever thing in buckets clean up my room wife crying go to my lfs pay $500 for the same tank but new with lifetime warrinty that went good until i lost about $2000 in fish,coral,clams,orster all cause the power went out i try very hard to keep them alive boiling water on the grill but all failed but now my tank is doing very well beside me fighting ich on my fish and coral are doing very well sorry had to vent that out and of my chest

Hello, I am Christopher, from southwest florida. I am fairly new to this hobby as my Dad always had a tank of some kind when I was a kid. Saltwater tanks interest me so much that I have been wanting to start one forever. I just recieved a 55 gallon tank from my sister so I will be jumping into this hobby very very slowly. Looking forward to getting to know other reef enthusists along the way. My other hobby is photography so the two should compliement each other nicely. This is a Great forum and I have been reading posts for quite some time.

Hello! I'm in the North Alabama area and I'm new to saltwater aquariums and I'm in the planning stage at the moment. I have spent many an hour studying material like The Conscientious Marine Aquarist, this forum, and other websites. I bought a 55 gallon aquarium, lights, a wet-dry filter and a partially constructed stand a couple of years ago but never got anything started. My plan is to go FOWLR, finish the stand, construct a canopy to house the lights (and add fans for cooling and oxygen), and use a refugium (with a skimmer, heaters, and ATO) instead of the wet-dry filter. I also plan to make this as cheap as possible so I'm going to buy dry aragonite and dry rock and seed it from cured live rock from my LFS"¦I don't mind taking the time. I have many questions but I will start off with the one that I need help with as it may impact the construction of the canopy.
The 2 light fixtures included with my purchase were 2-65 watt Coralife 50-50 CF bulbs (straight pin) in a 48 in housing and 1-40 watt Philips 5000K Ultralume 48 in. I would like to use the existing fixtures and replace the bulbs but I'm really struggling with what to use for a FOWLR setup. Any suggestions?

Hello! I'm Hai and I'm from New Orleans and I'm sorta-new/old to the saltwater aquarium. About 6 years ago I started my aquarium, after katrina killed my cichlid tank, and I originally had a 30g coral tank with a sump but then gustav killed that off and now I'm back!
I bought a 75g with a stand for $200. Originally I intended to use it as a cichlid tank, but it just so happened to come with a coralife light and I still had some leftover material (dried live fiji rocks, some crushed coral bed, and my old 30g tank I can use for my sump.) so I'm going back to the saltwater family! WOOHOO.
I'll be lurking and asking random questions so please be patient with me! haha

I visited a buddy in Connecticut a few weeks ago and he had a reef tank. Well, I fell in love with it. He had a 120G and I couldn't take my eyes off it. So when I got home I decided I wanted to move to the reef tank. So this is where I am starting. I have done a little research and I am thinking about a 95G wave tank. the LFS has one for about $300, but no stand. So I am still debating the options, since I would have to find a stand and they are not readily available. Anyways. Glad to see there are forums like this.

2 Banggai Cardinal's
1 Firefish
1 Royal Gramma Basslet
1 White Banded Possum Wrasse
1 Tiger Watchman Goby
All will be added over the next year, in that order, assuming the tank can handle the bio-load.
I've been a silent creeper here since I started looking at saltwater, and figured since I am close to getting water in the tank, I would join to get answers to any questions I might need!
