If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hey everybody, I'm Noah from Roseville, Minnesota. I mostly have fresh water experience, but I really really want to get into salt water. Hopefully you guys can help me out!

Hello, my name is Andy and I'm really new to the saltwater game. As of right now I have a 15 gallon setup a 55 gallon halfsetup and a 155 gallon that I'm in mid process of pimping out.

I'm one of those people that jumped into the hobby really quick and fell in love with it. spent alot of money 2;P.
Soooo neways I figured I would give you guys a rundown on my 155 gallon setup and see what ya think.
I bought a Hydro-Logic Evolution-RO1000 High Flow RO System, 1000 GPD. Which I know is overkill but I really really hate waiting on slow RO systems.
I also got a Aquatop CF500UV 5-Stage Canister Filter with UV 9W, 525 gph, which I plan on using to suck water from my tank and place into the sump, for a sump I bought ProFlex Sump Model 4 Sump which is really nice for a refugium setup, also bought a very nice 220gallon protein skimmer which was a high end one. then a Hydor Seltz L Universal Pump L40 to pump the water back up to the tank. Now with the canaster filter pumping water to the sump will the sump over flow when it lose's power? I'm thinking it wont, but not quite sure. So anyways I hope to get things up and running soon but still have to wait for things in the mail.

I had a FOWLR about 10 years ago.. Speaking with a guy at work has given me the bug again. I cant wait to find a decent deal and set up a new tank.. Id love to get something 100 gallons or bigger :)

Aloha y'all, I'm new to the saltwater side. I brought my 4 month old into a pet shop and showed him some fish and he loved it, so I did some research online and at my lfs. I scored a 40b and a nice stand for a really good price. I really didn't know what is was getting myself into. I picked up a aquaclear 110 for filtration, a aqua c remora for a skimmer, and the 36" marineland reef led. I started off with 10lbs of live and 20 lbs of base. I bought another 10lbs of live but it was uncured. Its been curing for 2 weeks. I think its cured so I should be adding them in this weekend. It did come with some hitchhikers, 2-4 tiny furry white crabs. I see them hiding in the little holes. Should I remove them? They are so tiny I don't think I can catch them. Let me know what you think. Peace

Hello all! My name is Gigi and have fallen in love with the idea to have my own salt water reef tank. I've been scouring this site for 2 weeks now and have compiled lists upon lists of equipment needed, things to do and not to do...its so overwhelming. I walked into the local fish store with oh! I want a tank! Thought I could bring it home and wha-la! Done! There is so much involved that I'm postponing buying anything until I get all my facts straight. Thanks to all who have posted such invaluable information for us newbies. I greatly appreciate it!

I know its daunting but I'm shooting to do a 180gal tank.

hello!

hello!

Hello everyone! I just got back into the hobby recently after about a year and a half dry spell, after having to give up my 46 bowfront reef tank. Glad to see so many helpful topics here! Glad to be getting back into it!

My aunt found a biocube 14 in her new house. The system had been off for some time so the water was gross, and everything within was dead. Thankfully no fish, but there were a handful of hermit crab and snails. Lots of calcium and coralline built up on the back plastic. I emptied the tank and rinsed it with fresh water before scraping off all the built up carnage on the tank. Going to run it with fresh water for a few days before putting any live sand / live rock back into it. The live rock that was in it was soaked for 2 days in fresh water and spent the day in the sun today. Leaving it out to dry for a few more days. Since picking up this tank and finding this board, I'm thinking I want to use this small tank as a qt or as a refugium tank as part of a bigger system. I'm on the 2nd floor of my apartment building so I'm thinking 50 gallon. I'd love to have a really balanced tank with really nice corals and some nice showcase fish. 1.75" live sand, live rock on top, once the tank cycles and everything 0's I'll put a coral or two in.

Open to tips tricks and suggestions, feel free to PM me. This board looks awesome. Excellent stuff everyone!

Hey all, I just got into the hobby about 5 months ago. I work as a freelance artist and graphic designer and had always wanted a fish tank as a little kid. I love the Ocean and a lot of my recent work reflects my affinity for the sea. Now that I have my own studio I decided to grab a 12gal nano cube and a 10gal QT. Would like to get a few more corals to my system but for now, I'm pretty happy with it. Looking forward to learning more from the rest of the RC community. Be easy, peace!

Hi, my name is Steven. Me and my waife just got into the hobby about a month ago. I have 2 55g Long. The first one has about 3 weeks and it has about 50-70 pounds of live rock about 2 inches of live sand 2 domino damsel and its filtered by a Penguin 350, no sump. The second one has about 4 days and it has about 1 1/2 inches of live sand, about 20pounds of live rock and it has 2 penguins 350, no sump. The first one is going to be a combination of fish and sps but im still waiting for the cycle to finish. The second one is going to be a reef tank mainly to breed sps frags. I'm think im going to fast but my main tank, first tank is not doing bad, only nitrates are a little bit high (40-80ppm) and I think is the cycle spike but not sure. Ph is on 8, ammonia is on 0 and nitrite 0.

Just saying hello!
My name is Matt Z and i am from South Jersey. I have had a 24g JBJ Nano Cube running for about 3 years now. Before that I had a 55g freshwater Oscar tank. The guy who I got my 24g tank from took down his 90g tank and gave me the tank and all that came with it. My wife says I have to install a bathroom before I can set it up. Lol the bathroom will be in in the next 2 weeks. My cube is a mixed reef that has done well over the years. However the 90 is a
Completely new to me because of the sump and all that came with it. So there is a learning curve to go with it.
