If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

My name is Sam. I have a 50, 75, and 30 gallon freshwater native tanks. I recently decided to turn my 10 gallon tank into a nano reef tank. I have an assortment of zoas and some crabs.

I would like to eventually turn my 75 gallon tank saltwater. I want to try and stick to native saltwater fish. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Hi gang. My name is Kevin and I have had both FW and SW tanks for probably 10 years or so. Currently, I've just finished cycling a new 210, which will be a mixed reef. I will also be making the move from T5HO to LED with this tank. I cant wait... Previous tanks I'v had: 120, 46 mixed reefs; 55, 29 10 planted FW. Cheers!

Hello, my name is Josh. I have two freshwater tanks and one saltwater tank, I am new to the saltwater world and my tank is a 10 gallon.

Hi All

Hi All

After 10 years I'm back!! Looking forward to my little 15 gal Nano build.. Already planning on the upgrade! I just need to warm the wife up with the 15 first!! Keeps telling me how obsest I was with my 60 gal hex and how much time and money I spent on it or something!:lmao: I have no idea what she is talking about....

As with others I am getting back into the hobby after selling everything several years ago due to time constraints with kids and my job. My 6 year old has taken a real interest in aquariums so we are going to start simple and see where it goes.

Reef Central ROCKS!!

Reef Central ROCKS!!

Hi all! I'm completely new to the whole aquarium scene. Been wanting to get a reef tank for years! Never had the funds nor the space for it. Long story short, opportunity presented itself, so I pulled the trigger and had a custom tank build by a LFS here in SoCal. (shout out to Ali from Amazing Aquarium and Reef!) Read through couple of books about SW tanks. Though I did learn most of the details and science-y stuff from Fenner, Borneman, and other great authors, I have to say I WOULD NOT HAVE A CLUE WHAT ALL THOSE MUMBO JUMBOS MEANT IF IT WASN'T FOR REEF CENTRAL! One great post from a member of this awesome community would cover almost all of the essential points from many chapters in a book! Think I have done as much homework as I could before getting my hands wet, literally! Will be cycling my tank in about three weeks. Will definitely be needing guidance from all yall reef experts! Wish I will be able to contribute to this forum in the near future. Here are the specs of the tank:

100 Gallon Rimless w/ trapezoid overflow in center/back
40 Gallon Sump
Syncra 3.0 return pump
AuqaMaxx Cone 2 Protein Skimmer
Ecotech Vortech MP40's
Ecotech Radions

Hey everyone!

My name is Scott,

I have had many Saltwater setups in the past, but its been years since I have had a tank. Now that I have time, a place to put it, and a *few* extra $$$ I am eager to start back. It looks like some things have changed in the past 10 years or so. I'm a major DIY'er so I can't wait to get started learning about all the new stuff, especially LED lighting, and planning my new tank.

I just bought a drilled 75. Starting completely from scratch and havent even built a stand yet. My wife Stacy is a complete newb to reefkeeping, but she seems excited about it as well. Hopefully she will be on the forum from time to time as well :)

Looking forward to being part of the community and making new friends. We are located around Columbus, GA. Anyone else out this way? It'd be cool to have someone local to eventually trade frags with when our tank is heathy and growing!

hey all, came from manhattan reefs - been into SW since late 80's took a break but i'm back!! but into reef systems - trying to learn more about AI Sol's and Apex units. So far great site!!

Hello

Hello

My name is Keeto and I am new to saltwater but not to freshwater. I have a 30 gallon and mostly have inverts (cleaner shrimp, camelback shrimp, emerald crab and some hermits) also have two red scooter dragonets and I love them! Their names are Benny and Betty Blenny (I know they are not Blennies though).

I was wondering if anyone has experience breeding cleaner shrimp?

thanks

Oh and I dont' have a pom pom, just wish I had room for one!

Hello everyone. My name is Patrick and I'm new to the site and fair.y new to the hobby. I'm in the military and have been moving a lot so up til now I have had fish only tanks. The biggest was 150g Salt. I now have a 90g Salt reef beginning and a 55g fish only salt. I'm totally new to reefs so I'm sure I'll be asking plenty of questions. Thanks for all the info I have gathered so far......

New to Reef Keeping and excited to learn.

Hello all, My name is Jason. I have been keeping fresh water for about 15 years or so, but i got bored with it and FINALLY decided to take the saltwater plung. I have a 180 gallon system that i started about a month ago, i am setting it up as a mixed reef. I am super excited to learn the reef keeping hobby, yet i know i have a long road ahead. It is such a confusing, and detailed hobby but one that has great rewards when you get it right. I do struggle with patiences sometimes, so if you guys see me trying to move to fast please say so. i look forward to exploring this site, and hearing all the vast knowledge that you guys/girls have to offer.

Hi, my name is Neil. I was a professional aquarist for 12 years and after switching careers I'm back to keeping aquariums as a hobby. I'm setting up a 65g sps cube.

New to Saltwater and need advice

Hi. I m new to saltwater aquarium. Going to setup 20 Gallon nano-reef. I got live rock from LFS that was dead as it was dry sitting in the shop since a long time. Can u identify the types of rock from the pics i m uploading. It had many black places on it. It also had corrosion on it. I did strong bleach baths 2 tyms and strong muriatic acid baths enough to loose a thick layer. After that i rinsed them again and again. But it still has blackened places on it and a bit of corrosion... I even scrubed them with another rock and brush. But the blackened parts goes really deep.. can someone tel me if they are safe to use... I am uploading pics.

Registered here quite a well ago but have never posted in here. I got into freshwater fish when I was a kid. I'm 30 now and its been in my life in one form or another since then. I used to have a 100 gallon reef but a bad bubble/hair algae outbreak, two moves and a divorce but an end to that. I've recently just setup a 12 gallon nano and I'm more excited than ever!

Hi Everyone,
New to RC, almost new to reefing at all. It all started with a Fluval Edge 6G about 6 months ago: far too small and awkwardly shaped, but enough to get me started and hooked. I now spend my days designing the next one, something that would be about 30-50G, NPS dominated, with a ton of automation (lights, feeding, dosing, monitoring,...).
I look forward to discuss all of that with you guys

Hey guys/girls, my name's pat, and I'm in the process of building and setting up my first reef tank! A friend supplied me with some FREE acrylic, and I put together a 30x36x12" shallow tank. It's about 56 gallons, and I'll be running a 20 gallon sump with refugium. I have been wanting to do this forever and have been reading and researching nonstop for months. I just glued the tank and will be building the sump out of a glass tank this weekend. I will be doing an internal overflow box as well. I bought bulkheads today and will be drilling the tank shortly. I am super excited, but trying to take my time and do everything the right way. This forum has already been a lot of help, and I'm certain that it will continue to be! Thanks!

Hi - New Member here. I've read RC for a while, but new to posting. In fact, I haven't figured out how to start a new post, but I'll find it eventually. I have a 29G Oceanic BioCube. After some reading, I plan on upgrading my lights to LEDs, getting an inTank Media Basket. I have some mushrooms and polyps right now, but plan to have LPS one day.

Thanks -Wayne
