Hello fellow reefers my name is Dan, i'm 29, I live in Gainesville, FL and I'm new to the hobby (3 months). I have a 90g mixed reef tank with a few fish and a few corals, mainly lps right now. I'm trying to take it slow but man it's hard. It helps that I work on the road for weeks at a time but it makes it hard to keep an eye on how my tank is doing. Luckily I have a wonderful girlfriend that enjoys the tank, but just isn't as informed about how to care for it. She does a good job keeping everything fed and cleaned, but water testing is beyond her right now. Hopefully everything stays well between samples as they are spaced pretty erratically according to my work schedule. Anyway, I love this hobby and I'm so glad I got into it. Looking forward to getting to know everyone, and their tanks hopefully. Thanks in advance for any insight and help.

Hi, I am new to the saltwater hobby, I've had a few freshwaters in the past, but this will be my first saltwater, I'm on my 2nd and 3rd setup and I haven't fully cycled yet. So no livestock. I've been reading forums trying to build my knowledge enough to mitigate any errors or problems with inhabitants. So I have a 29 gal nano HQI setup cycling, but found I was going to need a chiller due to where I live, for the price of a chiller I found another great setup. Arghhhh......... Anyways here I am... Now time to read all the stickies.

Hello everyone, my name is Chris. I currently have a Oceanic 215g (72x24x30) running with mixed malawi cichlids. I have dabbled in freshwater of all sorts for the past 6 years or so and recently got the OK from my wife to begin buying equipment in preparation for making the switch. Aiming for a softy/lps dominated tank. Perhaps some sps later on.

Love the hobby and really enjoy saltwater/ reef tanks much more than freshwater althought I have had several very beautiful planted tanks with exotic guppys and rainbows ( never again

I am new to SW but have done FW for over ten years. I have a fish only 265 gallon aquarium, 75 gallon sump thats is SW. A 90 gallon bow front thats is a reef setup with 30 gallon sump, and a 90 gallon FW setup with 20 gallon sump.
I am new to this forum.

Hello everyone . I am new to CTARS. I just joined last night and went to my first meeting. I have to say I was amazed by how friendly and helpfull everyone was. I am already looking forward to the next meeting. I am just starting out, I have a 33 gal long tank (48inches) its only about 12 inches high. It seems like it will be ok to get started with. I just want to get familiar with everything before I go big
) I want to do mainly corals and my plan is to maybe someday use it as a frag tank in the future. Looking forward to meeting you in the future. Country Bob.

I will have a lot of questions for sure.
I bought a 125 gallon reef ready tank with a 6ft current metal halide/ led lamp, and i'm not sure what size sump I bought a pond pump and am currently running it with two oscars and a pleco. ( learning how to plumb a non leaking sump system was a fun trip)
I just recent also got ahold of a 180 gallon all glass tank, simple lighting, but has brand new overflow kits which after seeing an article on here about the herby method may try it. tank also came with a huge looking emperor smart uv sterilizer new in box and a sealife sump with some extra chamber not on my other sump and two pumps in it all looks brand new. And some books, large dead coral, crushed coral in bags, and some more bio balls which look to be about 1", and new glass tops etc so on so forth. I needed another tank like a hole in the head but for $500 bucks.... But thinking about running this one as salt and using my current light from the other tank. My question is where to start? I have seen a lot of other peoples plumbing and mine looks to be missing stuff. That being said I'm in the tri cities TN any help would be awesome! I'll probably let my 125 go seeing as a 180 should keep busy.

hello, My name is Forrest I have been in the freshwater fish thing for 5+years I have started a 10 gallon saltwater tank 1 year ago and getting ready to get my first corals excited. Also i recently bought a brand new never open 29 biocube for $64 yeah can we say stole but going to be building a stand and setting that up will make a tank journal when time comes but what is the saying "only bad things happen fast" so until then i will just play with my little tank

Hey guys, names Steve and ive decided to give salt a try.Was referred here from another message board that will remain nameless due to the douchebaggery goin on over there... Ive been keeping freshwater tanks for about 15 years and never got into salt. Dont get me wrong, I wanted to, but could never skew from the safety of the canister filter lol. So I dove in and picked up a salt setup...125 gal, multiple sumps, pumps, heaters, wave makers, skimmer, lights, over 100 pounds of live rock, oak canopy and oak hood and the list goes on...all for 400 bucks...so now i have no reason to not give it a shot, but I have a ton of questions. So ill be lurkin, reading, and asking questions.

Since a lot of my questions keep getting answered just by reading old posts and I couldn't find any new ones to weigh in on, I thought I'd start here.
My name is Cory, I'm a full-time college student also maintaining a full-time job as a manager at petco. I've done many freshwater and brackish tanks over 7 years or so but a 5 or 6 months ago I started my first reef tank. It's a measly 14g biocube that's mostly stock but I've been enjoying the rewards and trials saltwater provides.
My current setup includes 16lbs of LR (all in main tank), the oceanic skimmer, and as I said, everything else stock. I do have LEDs on the way though.
My livestock includes 2 snowflake clowns, a cleaner shrimp, 2 pompom crabs, and a small cleanup crew.
My coral consists of various zoanthids, a duncan, a pink/green hammer, small galaxea, and then whatever coral that I revive by bringing home from work and tending to it (currently a bubble coral).
I do work at a petco but we have a very impressive saltwater section. We do the best we can to keep our systems clean (ie. constant testing, frequent water changes, avoiding overstocking) and make sure our fish our healthy and well maintained. We even have a 90g FOWLR tank to house our tangs, butterflies, and what have you.
I have a lot to learn so that's why I came here. You guys look to have a very helpful and knowledgeable following and I'm excited to try to fit in somewhere!

Hi all, pretty new to this (my tank is 2 months old) just wondering when is the best time to add zoas? and any info on how to treat/introduce zoas to my tank? Ive a small 60 litre tank with 2 hermits 2 turbos a yellow tail blue damsel, a 4 stripe humbug and 2 common perculas. So pretty much a fish tank. No corals yet........ Water conditions are good and salinity is 1.025. I have a high flow rate and believe this could be a problem with zoas.

I got a second hand Aqua Medic Percula 120
it's a 120x60x60cm (sorry but I'm terrible in converting into
Inches ) which is around 430l.
It got an included area for the skimmer and
any stuff needed (well there is not that much space
but better than nothing ).
To light my tank I got 2x 150w mh and 2x54w t5 royal blue.
In meanings of flow I'm not very well equipped, I

I have a few questions about my four-month old Biocube 14. I purchased the tank used in May and have five pounds of sand and about 12 pounds of live rock in it. I have a couple of damsels, three turbo snails, five hermit crabs, a coral banded shrimp and a cleaner shrimp. I added a button polyp and a kenya tree a few weeks ago and the button is doing well, but the kenya tree not so well. It is shriveled up. I have heard they are virtually indestructable so I don't know what I'm doing wrong. All my water chemicals are good. I change out two gallons of water each week. I am running an intank media basket with filter floss, purigen and chempure elite. I have upgraded the pump to mini-jet 606 and also run a protein skimmer. The lights seem to work fine, but I've heard that if they are old they may seem to work but will not be putting out strong enough lumens for the tank. I have to clean the sides of the tank about every two days because of algea. Any advice anyone has for algae control and helping the sickly kenya tree would be appreciated. The picture was taken the first few days the kenya tree was in the tank. it doesn't look that good now.
