Hi guys newbie here, come from freshwater community it's overwhelming in starting a reef tank but I'm having fun researching.

Back after 10 years away

Back after 10 years away

Tom Harbin here. Have been away from reef keeping about 10 years. At that time I had a 210 reef system with all of the bells and whistles including Ca reactor, prot skimmer, 4 halides, 2 ice cap setups, tunze automated system and I can't remember what else. I am missing it, but am considering setting up a 29 gal bowfront and wanting to keep it simple. Is it possible to grow a few hard corals with live rock, bare bottom, or is the tank just too small to provide what a few hard corals need. thanks in advance. I have been reading everything on the forum that time allows. It looks like lighting has changed a lot in the last 10 years, but some if not most is still the basics. I have access to a 90 reef that has been broken down for several years. Just looking at my options. tom

My name is Lori. I am fairly new to reefing. I have had saltwater fish only tanks in the past but now have ventured into reefing. I have a 40 gallon long tank that I have up as a reef tank now and I am in the process of switching this over to my 125 gallon in the next few weeks.

What I have so far for the tank is

And feel free to message me anything else you think I should look at or get :) Take care

Hey Folks,

I'm thrilled to be starting to care for a tank again (about 20 years ago I had a 55 gallon salt with a few fish, and a 65 with some Oscars), but due to moving across the country a few times, living in apartments, and then having three little ones, well there just wasn't the right time.

But now it is! When we bought a new house with a perfect basement and my youngest started just lighting up anytime we went by a fish tank, well I knew it was time.

So I picked up a 150 from CL

And now I'm looking to pick out a skinner, figure out how big of a sump that means, and to drill the back of the tank using BeanAnimal's amazing instructions. I'm up for a ride.

Love reading all of these great posts - and even more loving the learning I'm getting from it.

Hi all,

My name is Pierre and I am from Sydney, Australia.
My sister gave me a 160lt (3ft x 1ft x 1.5ft) tank and it has been up and running for 2 months now and going strong.

Currently have 2x Clown Fish, 1x Blue Tang, 2x Blue Chromis, 1x Flame Hawkfish, 2x hermit crabs (really cleaned up the tank) and 1x random crab that grew in my liferock (No idea what it is if someone can help as the legs are all I have ever seen. I have a photo of them)

New to reef central

My name is Jon and I'm new to reef central. I purchased a home a while back because it had a built in reef tank in the basement wall. It came with everything I needed. We sold the home and My hobbie went with it. I just acquired a 125 gallon tank that was a reef aquarium. I'm ready to dive back into the hobby and this forum should be an invaluable tool. The tank is glass with two huge bulkheads drilled in the back with two return holes as well. The bottom panel is the only tempered panel. I don't like this setup but I love that the tank was free. My last tank was 75 gallon acrylic. I can't wait to get help along the way. Thanks

Hi there. I am Jessica. Just getting into the hobby after weeks of research. Next weekend my brand new 90g set up is being installed with all its goodies. I will be doing a FOWLR with some inverts/clams, so just not coral. I am very excited and glad there are such great forums, like this one, out there.

New To The Hobbie

Hi all, Name here is Dave, I'm new to all this. I just recently moved from Folsom, Ca to Wisconsin. I have a 65 gal tank that was all Discus in California but sold them all to make the trip to Wisconsin. Once here my wife talked me into going salt so here I go. Have a deep sandbed and live rock and all is cycled with a few critters in the tank now and all doing good, so far.
