If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi everyone FIRST POST for me, my two sisters and I started a 55 gal mixed reef (no SPS) about 2 years ago. We're having cyanobacteria problems now and are working on a DIY sump to intall a better/working skimmer and increase the volume. We will be using the forums for help and to show off our cool tank!

Hello everybody.

My name is Peter I live near a smal town named Ystad , its in most southern part of Sweden.
Recently joined this extremly fantastic forum , loaded with so much experience about everything on saltwater .
This is my restart after 20 years without SW, and I can see there is a lot to learn.

It all started when I was looking for some info about LED lamps for my home, I found some info about
the leds by mr wilson on nineball´s thread on this forum, I started to read the thread and suddenly It was morning the next day.
Two days after that I bought a smal nano tank or "pico tank" , its just 60 liters complete setup with a smal skimmer and everything.
I also bought a extra wave maker (650 l/h),some tests,a refractometer, acetic acid, activated carbon and Phosphate remover etc.
Already have a pH meter from Hannas Instrument and a TDS meter to test my fresh water with.

There alredy are some Zoas, Palytoas,3x Ricordias, 2x living rocks,
star polys ( Cornularias?), a smal bubble anemone ,Rhodactis sp. and some 3 x Cypraea moneta in the tank. The star polys didnt show up for some days but now they are out , so it seems ok.

Feel free to look at the tiny "pico" tank in my Profile Album.

This is the top one forum, i love it.

Cheers from Sweden

Hi,My name is Logan and I am new to Reef Central. I have had many tanks in my day but nothing has come out like I have liked. So took a few years off stepped back and decided to start small. I have just ordered a 14G Cadlighting tank with daul LED light fixtures. Hoping to build a small reef. Thanks

Hello, I'm David and we recently bought a 125 gallon tank on Craigslist with a solid mahogany cabinet, a UV filter (that I don't use), a 19gpm return pump (I can't remember the brand), and two T12VHO bulbs. I also purchased all of the live rock, live sand, fish and LPS corals from another Craigslist seller and transferred it to our empty tank. That was in August. I have since added a bicolor dottyback, two zebra gobies, and two long-spined cardinalfish. Also a long-spined sea urchin, some snails, a couple of peppermint shrimp, an emerald crab, and a sand-sifting starfish.

I've seen significant growth of coralline algae, all of the LPS seems to growing as are the five soft corals (Kenya trees?).

I have a sand bed of medium crushed coral about 3 inches deep. Also the tank has about 150-170 pounds of live rock. The system came with two containers of bio-balls and from my reading on this forum I may remove at least one and insert a protein skimmer some time.

My local LFS store told me the T12 bulbs are outdated and will be hard to replace. So, I bought two Ecoxotic Panorama Pro RGB LEDs which provide just enough light to see stuff but not enough if the T12s stop working. I basically use to add some color to the tank.

I do not have RO water so the water changes I've made since the original transfer (which was RO) has been filtered and dechlorinated tap water. I take my water in to my LFS store about every two weeks and they've said the levels look good. I've been doing 10% water changes about every two or three weeks.

All of the fish and coral look healthy and eat well. I feed them pellets (the same they were getting before from the 20+year aquarists) and brine shrimp.

I'm still learning and navigating this forum. I have lots of questions but it may be too much to post them all on this thread.

Not exactly new, but returning. I signed up quite a while ago and have lurked quite a bit but haven't really posted. We are getting ready to go from a 75gal setup to a 180gal setup. Thought I would reintroduce myself and maybe get some ideas for the future build.

Hi!
I'm from Toronto Canada, and I'm a VERY new reefer. Today I bought my first 37G aquarium and hope to start out with an easy and minimal setup for freshwater fish. Very excited!

I guess I should say Hi. Im new to RC but not the hobby. My name is Pat and I live in NY on long island. I've been in the hobby for several years but with a 2 year break. I came back recently with a 20 gallon that I'm in the process of stocking now. I'm also building a 125 with 55 sump/fuge. That should be up by the end of Jan, hopefully. I've been posting here and there and trying to help with some of the little knowledge I have. I've also been reading many threads so I can learn from other peoples mistakes. I know a couple of members on here from MR so I just want to say Hi to them real quick:bounce1::bounce1:
I guess thats all. I'll try to get a tank thread uo when I figure out which section to put it in lol:o Happy reefing everyone!! And Happy New Year:celeb2::celeb3::wildone::beer::celeb1::smokin::thumbsup:

Hey guys I'm Terrance. I'm a retired puffer addict, and new to reefing. I still visit my puffer community though. Anyways, I'm still trying to collect enough funds to purchase the rest of the required equipment for my 46g LPS/anemone tank. I will probably be done with it last 2013. Once I'm done with this tank, then I start converting my 120g with 40g sump from freshwater to reef. I'll probably join my local reefing society pretty soon (Puget Sound Aquarium Soceity).

I will see you all around RC!! I'm sooo addicted.

Hi guys, My name is Mario on I just started my tank. I have been trolling this site for about a month and all I can say is this site is great. So much info and great DIYs to make your head hurt.

Anemones splitting - are photos common?

Anemones splitting - are photos common?

I have joined on behalf of my sister who has a saltwater aquarium with anemones which have just split, she took a series of photos of the process and I thought there might be people interested in seeing them... or maybe this happens all the time and people have seen lots of photos? (never having seen them before I thought they were unusual but as I am not an aquarist I really have no idea). Anyway since my sister works and I'm retired I told her I would try to research this for her. Thanks...
