mike...light looks even in the pic... did that center bulb burn in??
No, I replaced it.
The bulbs are Aquaconnect 250w 14K.

Better shots of the Vlamingi in the QT.

Mike, hows the back doing? Has rehab worked for you? I'm having shoulder surgery on the Sept 24th :(. Fell and broke it in three places about 1.5 years ago and never heeled properly. So this has put a wrench in the spokes of my build. I'm trying to get as much as possible finished before that date - we'll see! Hope everything is doing better and I must say - the tank looks fabulous!

The back is doing great. Thanks to a bunch of lacals, I didn't have to put it to the test to finish the sand and rock, so I'm just doing the small stuff remaining. I won't start on the wood before 2008. The rehab made all the difference in the world. I still do my stretching everyday.
I'm pleased with the tank so far. I'm going to remove the 3 drains and redo those to make it easier to change the socks. That should take about 4 hours this weekend. And I hope to have my auto top off finished this weekend. Otherwise the parameters are good and the 5 Chromis are eating and swimming right side up.

Where is the surgery? Is it out or in patient?

Sounds like you have everything nailed. The sock location and easy of cleaning is a big issue with me also. Right now I'm looking at a few builds to give me some ideas of location, material etc.

Oh, the surgery is in patient not sure how long (Morton Plant). I have a autoimmune disease so it of course always complicates things. I'm hoping in and out and start putting my plumbing together.

Air flow meters added to my dual beckett skimmer. Mounting is temporary until I get an acrylic bracket made.

That looks great!.

I am, really liking these foam backgrounds like yours. It's such a much better look than blue, black or wires and wall (like mine) :)

Mike your moonlight shot is awesome - I love the look! So what are you going to have growing on your back wall?
I'll start some GSP in one of the corners, and I'll plug in some small acro frags that will encrust.
Any suggestions???

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Do NOT do it! GSP will be the end of your dream!

Calfo talks about how bad GSP is on a regular basis. It has no place in a SPS tank...

"GSP is one of the most chemically noxious cnidarians on the reef."

"many folks find that once GSP or corallimorphs, eg, are established... they struggle with keeping sps corals. "

Soft corals do not have the hard skeletal structure to help protect them from the nasty environment of the reef. So soft corals use chemical warfare to defend themselves and their turf. Place a small clump of GSP next to SPS and the SPS will die. Place any SPS in a tank with a lot of GSP and you will have a hard time just keeping that SPS alive.

GSP is one tough coral, and a lot of it, say all over the back wall of a tank, will make the tank very difficult to maintain, unless you like the green look.

Research that beast!

i totally agree, GSP i later realized was the death of many sps corals i had. it grew and grew and pretty soon took over the tank.

lots of carbon and water changes if you have it.
\
i still love it and have it in a different tank now.
