I'm having big fun now...390 display +

everything is looking really nice mike.on that reactor manifold,i see you used metal pipe straps.they do make plastic ones and you never have to worry about the rusting issue.once again great looking tank pics do it no justice,im glad ive seen it in person.

Hmmm....plastic straps. Why didn't I think of that. I've seen them at HD and Lowes. I'll check on that this week. Thanks!

The calcium reactor is going online this week with GenX media plus some Zeo Mag. I want to get it tuned before I put the coral from the QT into the tank.

do you know the flow will not be equal on the manifolds unless it is a closed loop? the last one will have much more flow than the first one.

thats why it is valved for all the reactors,he can adjust them all to get the right flow needed.Mike once you turn that calcium reactor on you will need to check the Cal and Alk daily till you get it set right(i think you know that already but figured id give a heads up anyway).

Only if he has all the ball valves turn fully open and the pump is only delivering what amount. Most of the time you will not need your media to be 100% - so it works out great. Put the lowest flow required media last and move up through the ranks - but mine is the same and the ball valves take care of all the flow.

Mike - check out my build and my manifold - I used only plastic or velcro. They work great and I got mine at HD and some at lowes.

I saw that on yours, but I wasn't smart enough to catch on to the reason!

Wow...quite a read. I have just ordered my 300g and will be "stealing" several of your ideas for my tank. Thanks for sharing.

mflamb - yeah right - LOL. The plastic straps that I used are for electrical pipes. I used some of the plumbing hangers and they worked great but in other areas the electrical pipe hangers worked better and were cheaper - all are plastic. Just make sure you check the size for the PVC first - I made that mistake :D.

I saw yours too Carol. I couldn't find them in Home Depot all I saw were the metal ones. I need to try Lowes. I have been conteplating making a manifold but thinking on getting another pump and just leaving my dart for the return.

Looking good.....

Thanks Eric. The reactors only have 0.375 ID hose, so there will be plenty of flow from the Dart to handle sump return and reactors. I'm connecting the calcium reactor tomorrow to get the flow set up and make sure nothing leaks. I'm also filling the 20 lb CO2 bottle tomorrow. I'll connect it and start the bubbles moving on Friday. I'm using the Gen X calcium media and Zeo mag in the reactor. I haven't acquired any GFO yet for my phosphate reactor, but I will be ordering from twopartsolution.com in the next couple of days. Joe (poknsnok) tested my PO4 today with his Hanna tester. All is good!

The plastic straps should be in the electrical dept right next to the metal straps in the same general area as the sticks of grey electrical conduit. At least that's where they are in our HD/Lowe's.

I should be ashamed of myself. I have a bag of them in the garage. When the electrician installed the four 20 amp circuits from the garage to the game room, he left a bag of 4 plastic conduit straps. I had forgotten all about them until now. I'll see what size they are before I go buy any.
(I blame it on getting old!)

Played with the tank some this weekend. I calibrated both pH probes, and I put the calcium reactor online.
Jennifer at FAOIS has my next fish chilling in one of the coral tanks. It's a female Genicanthus Melanospilus, common name Swallowtail Angelfish or Blackspot Angelfish. It's about 4 inches, and has beautiful coloring and fin structure. It's been at FAOIS about 6-8 weeks I think, and looks very healthy. The coral from the QT goes into the 390 on the weekend of December 29/30, and the Angel will go in within a week after.

Very nice fish Mike. I just looked them up and the whole genus is very beautiful. I have a tendency to dismiss the angelfish because most nip at corals, this beauty doesn't - very nice!

I'm going to have 3 of the Genicanthus angels. FAOIS also has a female G. Bellus that I will buy if it's still there when I pick up the Melanospilus.

Well, I played some more this weekend. I assembled my auto top off, and connected it to a DIY kalk mixer. Some fine tuning is still required. I currently have a MJ1200 pushing the RO/DI water through the kalk reactor, and the flow is a bit much. It stirres up the kalk powder into the top off water. I'll either try a MJ400 or change the angle of the water going into the reactor.
