Tank parameters as of 8:10pm.
Temp 81.1 F
pH 8.18
Mg 1290 ppm
Ca 480 ppm
Alk 10.9 dKH
NO3 2 ppm
I'll test PO4 tomorrow if I can get Joe to come over...hint...hint...
I would like to raise Mg a little and lower Alkalinity.
Those numbers are looking good Mike and I'm real suprised that your calcium is 480 with the mg being 1290 - but what do I know . I'm wondering why you're showing nitrates, had you just made some additions/changes?
Hey, I'm having problems with my DC8 also. I was about to add some of my corals from the 75g tank to the 280 and all the lights went out. I thought it was a short so I tore down all my electrical dealing with the canopy (Don't want bad electrical connects just above waterline). I rewire each light one by one - again. I just had the MH on and then the left on just went off - the AC3 indicated it was on. So I plugged in a lamp and it wouldn't work either. Then the right MH went off - checked again and the AC3 indicated it was on. Guess we got the same batch DC8 .
Carol, I test NO3 because of the two big Tangs and all the food that I throw in. The numbers don't look just right to me either. I'm going to test again tonight and also test with another brand of test kits.
Call Curt about the DC8. Sounds like you will be sending it back.
I hope the turn around on mine is quick.
The DC8 problem does not give me a very warm fuzzy. I know I can get it fixed but I ended up loosing a day trying to debug (I always check my work first). Now having to completely remove it only after being up for 1 week! having it control my ozone is not looking good - I just hope it's an isolated problem and is only the DC8. I really thought I had a short in my rack lighting system. BruceM had stopped by and we where talking about it (I had wires everywhere) and I then remembered you had the same problem. Bruce had me check the AC3 and it did indicate the light was on - plug in a lamp - not working. Oh well, I was just hoping to have one thing completely finished .
I agree on the retest - with only two tangs with that much water you shouldn't be having problems - IMO. You have a good skimmer, refuge and you use socks. I could see it building after a few years but to me it just doesn't sound right.
What are you feeding your tangs? I have one mimic tang - Acanthurus pyroferus and I just got a rabbitfish - Siganus magnifica (remember the big one at FAOIS) - I picked him up . I'd like to mix up their diet a lot more than I am now but really not sure what to give them. They eat a lot of Nori and I've tried other items but they LOVE the Nori - they need more than just Nori .
Carol, I feed Formula 1 and 2 flakes, Formula 2 pellets, frozen Mysis, frozen Bloodworms, frozen Plankton, Nori, Salifert Energy pellets, and several types of algae from my refugium.
Nitrates read somewhere between 2 and 0, so I just put it down as 2.
Mmmm I'm feeding about the same except I don't have that nice red algae you have in your refuge - hint, hint :twitch:. I wasn't sure if the rabbitfish would eat the bloodworms, mysis (meaty foods) - I might try just a veggie of the day type of thing until I have 4 or 5 veggies I know he will eat without a problem.
It's really nice seeing the larger fish zipping around the tank, it's like they smile while they swim .
My DC8 arrived from being repaired by Neptune Systems in California. It's reconnected and all is well.
Thanks to Stephen boydx6 for the loaner while mine was being repaired.
I picked up a Hanna PO4 photometer kit from FAOIS yesterday. I want to keep a close eye on my PO4, and the photometer is the easiest way that I have seen.
All fish are QT'd in the 50 with a dual biowheel, skimmer, and UV.
All fish are treated with just hyposalinity unless another concern presents itself. All fish are inspected daily and I make sure that the fish will eat the foods that I regularly feed.
