I'm having big fun now...390 display +

Two more PO4 tests this evening. Both tests 0.02. That's the lowest ever in my 390.
Two nitrate tests undetectable.

Great pics!

I just love the vlamingi ... wish there was a big enough tank in my future for one.

How has the foam back been holding up? It still looks great in the pics.

Vlamingi is doing great. He fights the snails for the pellets that make it to the sand, so his face is always covered in sand. Definitely a large tank fish. It's cool to watch the Vlamingi and Naso swim the 8 feet back and forth.
The foam is fine. Hard to tell in the pics, but lots of coralline on it. I'm getting a load of frags in March and am going to mount some to some "golf tee" type frag plugs and stick them into the foam and see if they will encrust onto the foam.

That's why I asked, I have been back and forth about doing this on my 220 (if I ever get it set up :( ). That would be a closer for me if it continues to hold together well and will allow corals to encrust.

I really enjoy your updates, the tank looks great!

Everything is progressing very nicely! I remember way back when you were considering using a linear actuator for your light rack. Have you nixed that?

no pictures can do this setup justice

I agree completely. This is a system that will be attempted to be duplicated. I am one of the copy cats.

I have the actuator and power supply. One more project ahead of that...a bunch of fans. I'm putting four 85 cfm fans under the light rack and four 55 cfm fans above the sump. I've been keeping busy "tuning" reactors in an effort to achieve "perfect" water chemistry parameters. Not there yet, but I'm getting closer every week.

Thanks everybody for the kind comments. I'm really having fun. My four fish in the QT will be in the 390 in a couple weeks and then I'm rounding up a bunch more SPS frags for the QT!!!

Thanks Joe for coming over and taking pics.

Would you mind discussing what you've decided as far as equipment and setting up the actuator? You can send me a pm if you want but I'm sure others would be interested as well.

I bought the actuator from Firgelli Automations. You can find them online. Probably the best selection of motion actuators on the web. It is a 24 inch stroke, 150 lbs of force, moves 0.4 inches/second at full load and 0.7 inches/second at no load. I chose this actuator because the higher pound force actuators are much smoother which is important for MH bulbs. I will be buying 2 more actuators from them. One will be to lift the front of the light rack for access into the tank, and the other will be to open the front of the canopy woodwork. It is a 12 volt actuator, and will be powered by a switchable computer power supply. I bought the power supply from an online computer parts store. I has 20 amps of 12 volt positive available, which is more than I need, but it was cheap.

Also pictured are some 85 cfm fans that will mount below the light rack and some 55 cfm fans that will mount above the sump. They will be controlled by the AC3.

Thanks for the information. I've been researching actuators for only a little while, and I think this is the way I'm going to go for my next tank setup. Firgelli comes up every time I look into this technology, so I'm sure they're a great company. I'm looking forward to see how you install yours. Thanks again!

Thanks, I've had a blast for the past 18 months on the setup!!!
Joe (poknsnok) took the latest group of tank pics.
