is it just me or does everyone have some sort of coral that aways dies on them?

no matter what the water conditions are, how well fed they are or even having good lighting.

For me, I have never been able to keep a plate coral, open brain, and candy cane corals.

These 3 will always die on me no matter how well I take care of them.

Simple deduction Counselor, some corals are difficult to keep. Thus, it makes sense to not waste money on this livestock! I read a lot of the reef books that address which coral not to mess with! :)

All of the above, no problem. The bane of my life is simple fox coral. I have some that's survived my hands, but it's ragged and gappy.

xenia is like a (weak) macro algea.. if you water is too clean it will die....

Probably explains why my xenia grows like weeds!!!!! :eek2:

I had xenia elongata come in as a hitchhiker in half submerged live rock in January in the back of a pickup truck. It survived cold salt water [same source] unwashed sand, and the cycle---grew to the point I had to get it off the structural rock it was taking, and since it was going to travel on me, I pinned it to the sand with a coral branch, to which it attached by morning and is still going.

if life were that simple, xenia is not a hard to keep coral but many people have difficulties with it. Xenia grows like a weed in my tank and I have onlt 5ppm nitrate.

candy cane corals are suppose to be easy to keep, but they just die slowly in my tank

I have had trouble keeping pompom xenia, it just shrivles up and dies. I have no trouble with the elongata xenia, it seems to better tolerate the low nutrients.
