Is it ok for the Heater to touch the sump sides?

My heater can't stand straight up so I have to lay it diagonally in the sump which causes the bottom tip of the heater to lay on the sump floor and wall. The sump is not glass, it's acrylic. Is ok to lay it on acrylic like that? Will this cause melting or weakness over time? I was thinking of putting a PVC elbow on the end of the heater to keep if off the sump itself. Would it be ok to do that?
Thanks,
Jim

I have 2 250watt in my acrylic sump the same way you described. Not a problem, no signs of the heaters on the acrylic.
