is it okay to leave cleaning magnets in the tank?

I normally leave the magnet on the tank wall in some corner and remove it only when it needs a good cleaning or pad replacement (or if something gets caught under it). Recently, I noticed that it wasn't cleaning as well, so I took it out to switch the pads and I noticed that the inner half was swollen irregularly primarily in the central area. I haven't taken it apart to check out the extent of the corrosion, but I probably will tomorrow night. This must have been going on for some time. So, is the submerged part of the cleaner not supposed to be constantly submerged?

This is the model for .75 acrylic.

They can be constantly submerged, either it had a defect or it was dropped at some point and cracked, I would be happy to replace the half if you send it to me.

I recently bought a Tunze power magnet, I have to say it works very well. I am however disapointed that leaving it in the tank, with the cord attached causes water to drip on the floor. The cord acts as a wick and then as it goes outside the tank it drips off on to the floor.

Does anyone know of a trick to stop this?

Replace the line with fishing line so it doesn't wick? It's actually pretty surprising that I haven't heard that complaint before, but that it would be pretty obvious that it would wick. Why doesn't it come with some sort of monofilament so that there wouldn't be wicking?

I don't use the line myself as I'm torn with the hassle of dealing with it snagging on corals and having to move it when traversing the brace on my acrylic tank, versus not having a line and having it fall to the bottom, versus using a floater and risking it banging into corals when it does come loose.

BTW, thx again Roger. I will be sending it out when i get the time. Luckily I have 2 sets so I am not without a backup.

I have asked them about that before, the rope they use is silicon coated nylon and they have proven to me that it won't wick provided you ring it out before parking it. If you wipe your fingers down the cord you break the capillary action that is causing the wicking as the cord itself is made of water repellent material. We tried monofilament and it was not very attractive, especially with how it tended to spiral up and not lie out neatly. I actually found the ideal was floating fly fishing line but on aesthetics my idea lost.

Is the inner magnet supposed to be sealed? When I put the magnet in the tank water enters through the 4 corners (air escapes). Will this corrode the magnet and the metal plate inside?

There is air in side, the housing is a decorative cover and not what seals the magnet, they are sealed inside by PU resin.
