Is my clam dead?

My teardrop maxima has been closed for the past two days. Everytime I went to check it out I saw one of my shrimps picking at the shell from the top, but they have done this before. The clam is now open, mantel completely retracted into the shell and it wont close when I touch it with a pair of tongs. All other clams are fine. Is my clam dead? If it is I want to take it out before it ruins the water. Hope you say no.

search for "gaping". This sounds like what you're experiencing. Prognosis is BAD...sorry.

the clam died about an hour ago. RIP. One of my crocea now has a pinched mantle, any suggestions

Sorry for your loss. I have never dealt with pinched mantle but I would try to keep the annoying shrimp at bay so the clam can heal over if it is not too bad. Are any of the fish annoying the clams by nipping at them? How did the pinched mantle occur?

no fish just two of my peppermints. they had never done that before i just noticed it today.
