Is nori worth doing?

I feed nori (dried sushi/seaweed sheets from my local grocery store) about 3-4 times a week. I use a magnetic clip, and my tangs and wrasses like it. It's a little annoying as big pieces get stuck under rocks, etc.

Is it really worth doing? I know you can buy seadweed pellets - would that be the same thing? Live Aquaria says that feeding nori to tangs helps their immune system, which is obviously a good thing.

Any thoughts?

I think it definitely is. More than just giving them nutrients, it allows the fish to graze naturally.

I generally fold up the Nori and then cut strips so that fish only pull off what they're going to eat.

Tangs and other algae grazers are inefficient eaters. That is that they need to eat constantly in order to get sufficient nutrition. In a large tank, there is likely to be sufficient naturally occurring algae. With more than one "customer", especially in a small tank, nori is essential.

I feed nori all the time. In an effort to prevent the nori from going everywhere, as mentioned above, I fold it over several times when I rubber band it to my "Nori rock" I have a Naso that just loved to shred it and make a huge mess. Now with the triple/quadruple fold technique, no more mess..
Fish love it...

I recently discovered the multiple fold. Less long pieces mean less mess. Thanks for the input. My flame angel hasn't shown much interest in it yet. My midas blenny loves it, though. It's fun to see the pecking order - purple tang goes first, then blue tang, then wrasses, blenny gets some last.

That's for the video. Interesting idea. Some heavy hitters in that tank - black tang, moorish idol, Achilles, nice big angels....

I think 3xs a week is good. More if the fish are eating it is better. The more fish you have in a tank that eat the nori the quicker everyone else catches on. I had everything I'm my 220g minus my zebra eel eating the nori

Thank you Brett. Before I did the folding with the bamboo stick /magnet I got tired of the mess so I quit feeding the nori for about two weeks. Black tang got pale and stomach started looking a little pinched. Started feeding them this way now I feed one sheet daily they are all pretty bright and have decent weight on and just love the stuff.

i think innovative marine just release the gourmet grazer that looks like its a good idea for feeding nori.

I feed 1/4 of a sheet daily. My sailfin tang, yellow tang, foxface and flame angel eat every last piece from the magnetic algae clip. Sailfin is about 6 inches and attacks it shaking his head back and forth ripping pieces off and if a piece does manage to float away the foxface catches it before it has a chance to go very far. I fold it up also and it only takes a few minutes before it's all gone.

I feed a sheet or nori every day folded tightly into a TLF magnetic clip. Lasts about 5 minutes ....

Shoot, I missed the first question lol. 99 cent store they had a toy butterfly net catching thing. The stick was bamboo. I tore off the net part and used silicone to stick it onto a small medium magnafloat I no longer used. Whala!
