Is this Algae Scrubber any good?

I couldn't find anything on it in the forum, but with Ebay and China items Im sure its here under a different name.

So does anyone know of some better terms for me to search or have some experience with this algae scrubber?

Marine Magic Algae Turf Scrubber Double

thanks again!

I don't like it. 2 screens lit on one side only on each. The screens are also lit on the opposite side of the water flow. I like THIS this one better....

Is anyone going to order one of these? I'm real curious to hear how well it does after about 3 months. It will be interesting to see how it compares to the concerns and issues raised in this thread pan out.

Hands down I would LOVE to have on of these. But since we have just started back and bought a TON of stuff this month Im tying to find a temp fix until I can justify another 400 bucks :)

Tank, sump, skimmer, uv, pumps, rock, sand, salt, lights, rodi filter system plus all the Home Depot runs for random parts, LOL Now I remember this hobby :)

Anyone have a used L4? :lolspin:

You did a good job

Making my own as well, just started ordering parts tonight.

Outy, I'm confused. Back on post #9 of this thread when you addressed all my concerns about the ATS under question by OP, you made it sound like you had first hand knowledge and experience with this unit. Here it sounds like you're just getting started ordering parts to build your own DIY. What's up with that?

I'm over 25 years in this hobby to the point I sell coral that is overgrowing my 215g. I fabricate a lot of plexi glass and acrylic in all my hobbies as well.

I was giving you suggestions that you are welcome to refute if you think I'm wrong.

I do agree with you after research. I think these lights will be on the weaker side as well. But it all depends on how many cubes are fed.

But as I told you bud, and no disrespect, I wasn't sure I would buy it. I love the screen design so that you can do weekly cleanings easier, and the housing is nice and I doubt the lid will be an issue.

So mine will have a hair stronger light/s with a large screen lit from one side, fed from my return.

Well, yes sort of. In the sprit of not adding yet another thing to the "honey do" list Ive decided to try an up flow scrubber- this way no more pumps or plumbing. Ive not heard as many good things on the upflow vs the waterfall ones, but its a start and our tank is young so Im hoping it will be enough for a time at least. So looking to find some good lights for one side.

Thanks!

I think it's mostly because they aren't as popular yet. You can use a number of things for them. I looked at using a project box for one. Some ppl, just use the plastic to go container that carry out Chinese food comes in...

Just installed it Monday. Using some old LED lights we had laying around, but certainly room for improvement. What size did you end up ordering for yours?

IME, you will find that the algae will grow faster on your sump glass/acrylic than on the upflow ats.
