SALT LIFE
I was told that i had to have some kindof filter on my tank but i read on here its not necessary>
i have a 75gl set up for about 5months nowwith about 80lbs of live rock, 2 b.w percula paired clowns , 1 3in yellow tang & sixline wrasse and afew pimple mushrooms attached to rocks and 2 heads of frogspawn & about 15 nass snails i have a bermuda rogue wave h.o.b skimmer 3 koraila 3 powerheads and an aquaclear 110 h.ob power filter.
My ??? Is the aquaclear needed

Not really. Most people who have a sump do some sort of mechanical filtration down there to remove particulates and such. In that respect, if you don't have a sump, the HOB filter gives you a place for that and things like GFO or carbon.

Ok i use black diamond carbon and phosban in mesh bags with the sponge on the bottom carbon & phosban are side by side at the top

your skimmer and live rock is the only filtration you need but yea if your going to run carbon a hob filter is a good use for that.

if you keep up on water changes i would just use it to run carbon every now and again. Having a sump is ideal but you can make it work if you have great water movement and steady water chemistry

ya, i use a typhoon3 ro/di system it filters 75gpd with 0tds i do a 20% water change every 2 weeks

Agreed, as long you as stay maticulous about your water changes and upkeep, you should be fine. The rest is just to help out with removing nitrates and phosphates...
