Is this the exciting future of Live Rock? Must See!!!

Both of those corals look nice and offer a striking color difference. In fact, I'm looking at those and my primary red/tan colors and those would stand out like crazy. I have 3 rather large Rose Bubble tips so that is why so much red :( And then there is the Kenya trees that just spread.

Side question for your Richard because I really couldn't tell from most of the rock. After the package(s) arrive, do you think one would have some time to do a bit of drilling on the rocks for say 1/4" or so acrylic rods? One or two holes for those to better stack or get some interesting aquascape - then also a few for plugs or other gorg's like the images above.

Toying with a 140 - 180 rebuild for my 40 and I'd like some open areas yet be able to connect. With your rock I'm a bit worried that it would harbor a mantis and knock me silly while drilling because I am shaking his home :D

Seriously though - I'd wager it is ok provided I leave most alone in the water/box and do one or two quick, rinse and repeat?

Candelabra gorg...indestructible...will grow like a weed for you and you will soon be fragging.......as will the silver gorg...they are very hardy...and easy to keep....

Amen , they grow very easy, after a while it's like pruning a shrub to keep them in the size / shape you want. any clippings get a big rubber band and a small chunk of rock and put that back in the tank for a few weeks and you now have a frag you can give to another reefer.

Another question...

Can anyone tell me what this (the one on the left)?

After that picture, the ends extended further out. About three weeks ago, they extended further and it looked great. I've been feeding Reef Chili once or twice a week over the last several weeks. My thought was that the Reef Chili caused the further extension.

On Monday, I got home from work and found two crabs walking on it. Most of it was completely retracted. I pushed them off. Last night, I swapped out my filter sock and replaced carbon and GFO. Today, it was completely retracted.

I plan to run my tests. Last I ran them, my alk was a bit low but everything else was OK.

BTW, the thing on the right looks the best it's ever looked. Go figure.

by the way if you look in a book on corals the group that is the gorg. is named Ocotcoral, that means 8 and any gorg if you look close the polyp has 8 arms so that is a dead giveaway to tell what it is.
a lot of the other common SPS hard corals are Hexacorals guess what they have ??

Thanks all!

Got home last night and ran down to check on it. Looked much better - probably back to about 80%.

Doing some reading on them caused me to question whether I should get it mounted. As of now, it's just positioned between some rocks. If I should, I'll start a new thread for help.

FYI

Gorgs open and close all the time....is what they do..they also grow like weeds...mount it on a rock...and it will overgrow the mount in no time!

I am another very satisfied customer of TBS. I have ordered twice in the past (125g and 28g reef). Very high quality rock and livestock with top customer service from Richard.

I am working on a 180 gallon build now and will be ordering the package again.
Looking forward to another great purchase!

If anyone is interested, you can check out my build thread at post #181 for the start of me adding the TBS Package to a BioCube 29g.

You have to see the 2nd shipment and what the tank looks like the day after I add the 2nd shipment. It's amazing (to me) how established the tank looks and feels almost immediately!!

When I add additional tanks to my home I will most definitely be getting the package for all of them!

You're obviously a really light sleeper too ;)

Actually the little SOB really does go in to overdrive at night. My wife thought my tank was falling apart the other night till I told her it was a shrimp, then every time he went off on a firing tirade she busted up laughing. Now she wants more of them. That's good, because I'm going from a 40B/ 15 fuge to a 75 and probably making my 40 my new fuge. Time for more rock!!
Haha! I have one in my tank and he is usually quiet throughout the day.....but then night falls. Woke me up the other night, (the tank is sitting on my night stand) to him going on a "capping" frenzy. He was poppin some fools lol

What the hell is this!?!? That orange sponge looking blob is actually some type of slug! Had slug feelers and was movin around pretty quick! Never seen anything like it! Anyone?

I am setting up a new 90g soon and I was planning on using all dry rock that I already have, including some TBS rock I used in a previous tank several years ago. After reading though this thread I think I am going to pick through my dry rock for some "choice" pieces and then order the rest of my rock from TBS again and sell the rest of the dry rock I have left over.

Great plan! I love my TBS package!

I have a 150g that I will be setting up soon with a mix of dry and TBS 2.1 rock. Trying to get an idea how much room 50lbs of the new 2.1 rock takes up in a 100g or 150g tank. I want a lot of open space in this new build.

Well my tank is a 40b and I have 80lbs in it.

I don't know if that helps but...

Not impressed !

Not impressed !

I came upon this thread a few days ago and was really excited after reading all the positive reviews. I was discouraged that there was no more of the eco-friendly live rock and then become curious about the famous live rock everyone was raving about. After reading all of the fuss I was ready to order a few pounds of live rock no matter the cost. Thank GOD I did not waste my money.

Fast forward to today.

I was at a local aquarium store looking at the tanks, when out of the corner of my eye I noticed a sign that said..............

WALT SMITH eco-friendly live rock...................... I had to look at the sign a few times to be sure I was reading it right. I then stared looking for a few nice pieces to add to my tank and see the " AMAZING GROWTH" !

As I looked at the rock I realized it looked like a bunch of turds stuck together. I kept looking and ONLY saw ugly brown rock with no color what so ever.

Oh, there was lots of LIFE on the rock in the form of LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of Aiptasia !

You do know that the rock you saw in your LFS is not the same as the walt smith rock being discussed here right??? You can see in the pics in this thread and in the TBS subforum all the colors the rock has
