Is this the exciting future of Live Rock? Must See!!!

Funny, the idea of a "fish tank/ reef tank" as "Quite, Peaceful" but the reality is things are at war in there, some are chemical warfare, others biological, some things snaping, popping, some fish that make grunting sounds, others that are trying to jump out, and then the sound of the water traveling to the sump, the fans, and other bits that keep it working....

Hmmm and that's supposed to be calming to us ??? :-)

Yeah, the more I read about it the more I consider ordering live sand and live rock

I had tanks with TBS for a long time but had to sell and I am now getting back in to the hobby with a new tank.

had a local crew move the tank and the head guy was all saying that he worried about bad critters and phosphates, I explained to him that he was getting like 90% bad roomers and that this is killer stuff.

there can be some things we do not want, that comes with the fact that it comes right out of the ocean; things are in the ocean that compete for food in many ways, that's life on a real reef.

if all a person wants is a sterilized man made controlled system then TBS rock is not for you. if you want a real reef that is as close as we can get to nature then this will do it very well.

I think that really says it all right there!

if all goes well my tank will get the sand and base rock this weekend.
check my blog here and it will get updated with news as that happens.

All those tank noises are very calming. On the flip side, I get quite frantic if I don't hear them :D

nice to hear its all coming along sir.

yeah I am a bit concerned with the clicking as my tank/ tanks will be in my bedroom.
do you think it would bother ya if you where trying to sleep?

There would be no freaking way I'd be able to sleep with a mantis or pistol in my bedroom. That said I know some people who can sleep with the TV on so I'm not really sure to what extent it will bother you. They tend to go into a snapping overdrive at night.

You're obviously a really light sleeper too ;)

Actually the little SOB really does go in to overdrive at night. My wife thought my tank was falling apart the other night till I told her it was a shrimp, then every time he went off on a firing tirade she busted up laughing. Now she wants more of them. That's good, because I'm going from a 40B/ 15 fuge to a 75 and probably making my 40 my new fuge. Time for more rock!!

Ditto man.

The slightest little thing wakes me up. For me to sleep soundly the whole night I need a laundry list of things:

1: freezing cold
2: my cpap
3: pitch blackness
4: a fan
5: zero noise
6: minimal electronics
7: melatonin

If one of these items is not met, I am awake. It's rediculous.

I love the rock I got from TBS. I found a few more very small urchins recently. I think I saw a Gorilla crab the other day, but it moved before I could get it out. I also found some sort of a whitish, long legged starfish. It likes to hang out on a sponge, but I haven't been able to get a good picture of it.

I like hearing the snaps of the shrimp, but my tank is in my basement. I had a few tiny ones in my refuge that I might have killed when I added some substrate. The ones in the DT are still going strong.

I also found a small anemone the other day. I enjoy looking at/for stuff!

Cool! So glad to hear that!

It loves to hang out on that sponge. I hope it's getting enough to eat.

I have one similar to him too! I've been target feeding brine shrimp every few days and he takes it like crazy! It's fun to watch him curl big arm fills down to his mouth.

Another question...

Can anyone tell me what this (the one on the left)?

After that picture, the ends extended further out. About three weeks ago, they extended further and it looked great. I've been feeding Reef Chili once or twice a week over the last several weeks. My thought was that the Reef Chili caused the further extension.

On Monday, I got home from work and found two crabs walking on it. Most of it was completely retracted. I pushed them off. Last night, I swapped out my filter sock and replaced carbon and GFO. Today, it was completely retracted.

I plan to run my tests. Last I ran them, my alk was a bit low but everything else was OK.

BTW, the thing on the right looks the best it's ever looked. Go figure.
