Is this the exciting future of Live Rock? Must See!!!

I posted this pic in another thread, but here you go. Tank is only about 60 days from when I got Shipment 2. Doing great so far!

looking real nice! thats what I am talking about. love the sponges and gorgs. there gonna be a big part of this tank.

Well, this thread has certainly convinced me. I've started with completely dry rock with some store bought "live" rock to seed it For my 220 I'll be doing a little bit of the same. I have most of the rock from my 60 cube in a 32gal brute being sustained until we move down to Orlando. I'll definitely be purchasing some of the 2.1 rock to fill out the rest of the tank along with some sand.

One thing I always felt I was missing starting largely dry was the micro fauna in the sand and rocks. Some places sell micro fauna "starter kits" that are very expensive and worthless if you have any kind of fish already in the tank that may prey on said fauna. Next step is to look into cultivating some phyto to feed.

What's great is I'll only be 90 minutes away so I can drive down and pick it up!

Sponge Power is the Zeovit product that has incredibly good reviews. I haven't used it personally but intend on using it once I pull my rock. Most reviews indicate enhanced coral polyp extension and good actual sponge growth. It's not as pricy as it appears since the dose is one drop per 25 gallons. Hopefully others who have used the product can chime in with their experience.

I've finally found some free time since the holidays and started the video editing. Should be up in the near future. ;)

The water hasn't cleared 100% yet and the full shots of the 180 and the 75 gal tanks taken with my phone, don't show off the sponges/tunicates and such, but you can see my initial aquascaping. The rock aquascapes easily - creating nice structures.

Here's a cool hitchhiker in my first shipment. Urchin that has covered itself in an armor of shells and debris. Looks like he is preparing for battle.

thats cool

thats cool

He looks ready for the zombie apocalypse lol..I have another customer with a pincushion that carry's around a plug of green sea mat with it....natural propagators!

nice set up! scape and rock looks great!

My live rock came in late tonight. All I can say is, it's as good if not WAY better than advertised. The life that came in on this is amazing. So far, tunicates, some sort of pistol shrimp that looked really cool for the 2 seconds I saw it before it disappeared into the rocks, numerous crabs ( I grabbed as many as I could and through in the HOB refugium until I can get an ID, 4 little shrimp that were so small that you couldn't ID, sponges, the list is more but I'm tired. This is a brand new tank and this was supplemental rock but I wish I had just used all of TBS rock. I'll try and start a tank build thread in the next day or two. AWESOME ROCK!

Wow...southwest did a great job getting that there ......your rock went from Tampa to Atlanta...yesterday morning....changed planes...then on to Las Vegas...changed planes again....then on to Oakland.....changed planes again....and then on to you in Spokane....all in on day....that is amazing service from Southwest.

You can use this list for identification of any critters you got....

Now the only problem is your going to be watching your tank instead of the playoffs this weekend LOL

Enjoy your new ocean!

Loving my first prt of the package. Ammonia never got above .02 on the Red Sea test kit, nitrates steadily at 0-0.05 and nitrates around 5 without water change. We now have two more baby urchins, another green and one black one showing up now. Crabs are finally getting brave and exploring. It's going to be time for the second part of the package. Richard, I'll email you but a follow up phone call would be great.

Nice photograph skills there Dewey. Nice photo and like how you composed it. Looks really cool.

Ok guys, sorry for the delay. I finally have a new video for you of the aquaculture site. Check it out. Let me know what you think. Share it with your fellow reefers.

I'm learning about scuba videography, so don't be too critical of my skills. It wasn't easy being a new diver, solo, maintaining buoyancy and fighting a current all while trying to keep the camera steady.

I promise much better high quality videos to come in the future. I'll also post a video of a natural reef just north of TBS's site.

No doubt. Next time I will make a better effort to get closer macro shots. Turn over the rocks to uncover the hidden critters. Not to mention, that rock was pretty new. It's getting a great soak right now.

Amazing visibility

Amazing visibility

Looks great! Nice job.
Love seeing all the fish, sponges and other creatures down there.

Yup ...was one of those truly incredible days for visibility....is only like that a couple of times a year here in the Gulf........most of the time it is like when you were here...1-2 foot of vis...

CuzzA did the diving and filming...and an incredible job on the video...more to come!
