Is this the exciting future of Live Rock? Must See!!!

Richard, I've been looking for an ID on a fish in the video but haven't come up with anything. The fish comes into frame at 2:47. It's dorsal has what appears to be a white coloration along with a blackish, maybe blue body. It looks like a wrasse, but I'm not sure. I thought at first Slippery Dick, but it doesn't look the same. Thoughts?

Juvenal sea bass......they change a lot as they grow...and the males get a big lump on the head as they reach sexual maturity......

Here's a reef just north of Richard site. Viz was pretty good, but definitely green water. I did my best to correct it and edited the video to be more friendly. This was taken from my GoPro mask so it's a little jerky and given the activity my head was on a swivel for more than one reason. :D But at least you can see a reef next door to Richards.

Open in your browser and set to HD for higher quality.

yeah, little jerky but understandably.

Still takes me a while to get used to the idea of being swarmed under water by a school of fish. Although out here in Northern California and diving in Monterey it is usually the rock fish which are larger. They come out of nowhere it seems when passing the kelp or pinnacle rock formations :( That or those stupid Sunfish / Mola Molas. Always scare the you know what out of me.

Has you dive more at various depths and see more reefs it sort of makes some of the reefs we keep look like skittles, you know? Night and day difference. Thanks for sharing, cool stuff.

What was the water temp :) Always jealous of you guys diving in warmer waters!

Yeah, unless you dive around Austalia, Indo-Pacific, Red Sea, etc., you don't see the colorful hard coral formations over here like they have. One day I hope to dive at those locations. For now my goals are to travel Caribbean destinations. I think Bonaire will be my first dive travel destination. I would like to dive off California too. Kelp forests look pretty amazing.

As far as swarms of fish, I don't know if you get used to it or not? While hunting, anything darting out of the corner of my eye gets my attention, I'd like to see the grey suit before it's too late. When I was doing one of my AOW dives we were at Hudson Grotto, viz is crap there, kind of like quarry diving... and a big old turtle startled the **** out of me. There wasn't much life there so I was caught off guard when he dove down from above my head right in front of my face. I though it was a gator at first. Lol.

That dive was in December as well. ~70 degrees. :D

I never updated this thread, well now I am. I'm really happy with my 2.1 rock from TBS, I got it to introduce biodiversity to my system to combat a dino issue that I was failing to overcome. My SPS were in really bad shape, so bad I would almost call it a mini crash; lots of browning, STN, one RTN'd, even LPS, were suffering. I had tried multiple things prior to ponying up the money for the 30g package to try and rid system of dinos and all had failed, and I didn't want to purchase a UV filter so I got creative from my research and figured this would be my best way to beat dinos. So far I consider the dinos a distant nightmare, they haven't come back after completely taking out my old rock and 75% of my old sand. I never had nutrient issues like a few people close to me feared I might from this drastic switch, though this could be attributed to my marinepure ceramic block in my sump. Overall I'm really happy and I would do it over in a heartbeat, this rock is really special and it's brought me a lot of entertainment that I would have otherwise not had.

I need to update my FTS but here's some pics of when it first went in, not much has changed really but I digress.

Thanks Richard for having such an awesome product! It'll be a sad day when your rock is no longer available, hopefully far off in the future.

Yes it's all TBS rock, I got the 30g package which is 60lbs of rock. My tank is 80g, 48x24x16.

i've drilled rock, heres some tips.

- get a masonry bit made for concrete, regular bits wont work.
- the base rock has to be stable and large enough to hold the column up.
- putty didn't work for me. My rocks were mostly roundish so the contact area was small. No matter, one rod holds up the column easily and two rods would make it rock stable. (I used one rod stacking four rocks high. )

If I were to do it again I would get another bigger drill bit and predrill some holes for frag plugs.

question for you guys.

anyone have long shipping time? my rock is stock Den.
was shipped out fri eve. and looks like i will get it tomorrow ( hopefully) so 2 days
should be fine yeah?

That does not sound right.

How did you have it shipped ? air cargo is normally fast.
What air line ? have you called the air cargo terminal ?
Called Richard ?
If it shipped Friday you should have it today.

LOL

Is called a blizzard...BIG TIME ....Denver is shut down ...two feet of snow...all flights canceled.....but they will be ok tomorrow...

Is why I pack my rock underwater and with pure oxygen in the bags so it travels happy...it never knows it left my tanks before it gets to yours.....

When I used to ship South Africa...back in the day...rock made four day trips back then...and Iceland was tough to get into also considering the proximity to the US.

Cross fingers for flight tomorrow....living in God's country ...is a long ways away!!

I googled it...what amazing topography ..
